2. Introduction
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, one
God. Amen.
Kyrie eleison. Lord have mercy, Lord have mercy, Lord bless us.
Amen.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now
and forever and unto the ages of all ages. Amen.
THE LORD'S PRAYER
Make us worthy to pray thankfully:
Our Father Who art in heaven; hallowed be Thy name. Thy
kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give
us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we
forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver
us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory,
forever. Amen.
3. The Psalm – Psalm 34
Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia
I bless GOD every chance I get; my lungs expand with his praise.
2
I live and breathe GOD; if things aren’t going well, hear this and be happy:
3
Join me in spreading the news; together let’s get the word out.
4
GOD met me more than halfway, he freed me from my anxious fears.
5
Look at him; give him your warmest smile. Never hide your feelings from him.
6
When I was desperate, I called out, and GOD got me out of a tight spot.
7
GOD’s angel sets up a circle of protection around us while we pray.
8
Open your mouth and taste, open your eyes and see—
how good GOD is. Blessed are you who run to him.
9
Worship GOD if you want the best; worship opens doors to all his goodness.
Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia
4. Short Reading and Meditation
9
As Jesus was leaving, he saw a tax
collector named Matthew sitting at the
place for paying taxes. Jesus said to him,
“Come with me.” Matthew got up and
went with him.
10
Later, Jesus and his disciples were having
dinner at Matthew’s house. Many tax
collectors and other sinners were also
there. 11
Some Pharisees asked Jesus'
disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with
tax collectors and other sinners?”
12
Jesus heard them and answered, “Healthy
people don’t need a doctor, but sick
people do. 13
Go and learn what the
Scriptures mean when they say, ‘Instead of
offering sacrifices to me, I want you to be
merciful to others.’ I didn’t come to invite
good people to be my followers. I came to
invite sinners.”
Thought for Today
The Psalmist invites us to spread
the good news. Jesus is the
good news, and when he passed
into Matthew’s life – Matthew
was radically changed. We are
called to bring Jesus into all our
relationships. To see others the
way he does. To accept others
the way he does. To redeem
them through a simple
invitation to follow him. God
meets us more than half-way so
we can meet others in the same
way.
Matthew 9:9-13
5. Prayer
Pray Silently or Aloud for Others and Yourself
Lord in your mercy, hear our prayers.
Look upon us, O Lord, and let all the darkness of our souls
vanish before the beams of thy brightness.
Fill us with holy love, and open to us
the treasures of thy wisdom.
All our desire is known unto thee,
therefore perfect what thou hast begun,
and what thy Spirit has awakened us to ask in prayer.
We seek thy face, turn thy face unto us and show us thy glory.
Then shall our longing be satisfied,
and our peace shall be perfect.
(Augustine, 354 - 430)
