The film depicts Chaplin's character struggling to survive in the modern, industrialized world. It shows the assembly line process in factories and how jobs have been divided into specialized labor. Though the work is difficult, conditions were even harder during the time period portrayed as mechanization had replaced many jobs but working conditions have improved today with the help of machines.

- I think that the action of the film happens in the
beginning because in the film, all the craftpeople
were replaced by machines, and they had to work

today?
- Working during these times was
harder, because there weren’t any machines that
helped for doing some things, and because of
that, there were more employed people. Working
today is less hard than before. Now, we have a lot
of machines that do a lot of things
automatically, and people are replaced by them.

like it?
- Yes, it liked me. The film was nice, I was laughing
all the time with Charles’ movements and face
expressions. From my point of view, it was really
really funny. I think the actors were great, like the
film.
I think Charles showed really good how the
industrial revolution was. I would like subtitles in
the last song, because all the people was laughing
but I didn’t understand anything.
