 Green technology is the environment friendly way to
protect the Earth’s natural resources and the
environment we inhabit.
 Its application of knowledge to reduce impact of
human activities on the environment.
 By natural resources we mean surface
water, Atmosphere, Coasts, Land etc.
 Protection of environment we mean to protect all
these natural resources from contamination
, pollutants and toxic chemicals.
Types of Environmental Technology
 Recycling
 Renewable Energy
 Water Purification
 Air Purification
 Sewage Treatment
 Solid Waste Management
 Energy Conservation
Recycling
 Recycling is processing used materials (waste) into
new products to prevent waste of potentially useful
materials.
 Recycling means making waste or already used things
into brand new products.
Renewable Energy
 Renewable Energy is energy which comes from natural
resources.
 About 16% of global energy is from renewable resources.
 By renewable energy we mean
wind energy, solar energy , biomass , hydro power energy.
Water Purification
 Water purification is the process of removing
undesirable chemicals, biological
contaminants, suspended solids and gases from
contaminated water.
 Simply it is the process of removing contaminants
from raw water source.
 Most water is purified for human consumption
(drinking water).
 According to a 2007 (WHO) report, 1.1 billion people
lack access to an improved drinking water supply.
Air Purification
 Air can be purified by growing common plants
because they convert Carbon Dioxide into Oxygen.
 For example: Neem tree ,Palm tree, Tulsi tree
,Eucalyptus etc
Sewage Treatment
 It is similar to water purification
 It is the process of removing contaminants from
wastewater and household sewage.
 Its objective is to produce environmentally safe fluid
suitable for safe disposal or reuse.
Solid Waste Management
 Solid waste management is the
recycling, reuse, disposal and treatment of solid waste.
 process is generally undertaken to reduce their effect
on health, the environment or aesthetics.
 Types of solid waste management:
• Landfill
• Incineration
• Recycling
Energy Conservation
 It refers to the efforts made to reduce energy
consumption.
 Energy conservation is carried out by using the devices
that consume smaller amount of energy in order to
reduce the consumption of energy.
 Reducing the use of electricity causes less fossil fuels
to be burned to provide that electricity.
Goals of Green Technology
 Sustainability
 Creating products that can be fully reclaimed or re-
used.
 Reducing waste and pollution by changing the
patterns of production and consumption.
 Developing alternatives to technologies - whether its
fossil fuel or chemical intensive agriculture - that have
been demonstrated to damage health and the
environment.
 Creating a center of economic activity around
technologies and products that benefit the
environment
