Statement of intent for contents page
1.
2. WHAT LAYOUT WILL YOU BE USING FOR YOUR
CONTENTS PAGE (THIS RELATES TO THE USE OF
COLUMNS AND GRIDS IN PLANNING YOUR
CONTENTS PAGE LAYOUT) AND WHY?
I plan to have a very artistic and free flowing
contents page. I tend to find that most
magazines of the Indie genre use a very strict
and ordered layout. It will look quite minimal but
professional at the same time. I wanted to
include a river/stream like graphic which runs
from the top of the page to the bottom.
3. WHAT CODES AND CONVENTIONS WILL YOU BE
USING FROM YOUR CONTENTS PAGE RESEARCH
AND WHY?
Basic techniques such as including a page number next to the page title
will be used.
4. WHAT four image shot types (this relates to the different types of shot
used in
film, television, magazines or newspapers. These shots can have their
own connotations. A close-up is more intimate and personal. A low-
angled shot makes objects look bigger and more powerful.) will you be
using for your Contents Page and WHY will they appeal to your potential
target audience?
My contents will mostly contain Images of places rather than people as I
think it the theme of „surroundings/setting‟ should be evident through
out my contents page.
5. WHAT stories will you be including in your
Contents Page and HOW will they be related
to the images?
The stories will be about Artists as well as events which take place in
certain places. I will try and show this through the images of my
contents page. I will also be including images of symbols/logos that
relate to the artist with out having a picture of the artist themselves. I
chose to do this because some of the artists in my contents page where
already established, I would struggle to get primary images of them, so I
decided to include images that relate to them which is a lot easier to
get a hold of.
6. WHAT do you want these images to tell your
audience and WHY?
They give my audience a brief insight about who the artist is. I studied
ways into how to get a reader to turn to a certain page, and by
including an image which does not give to much away, it intrigues them
and makes them want to know more.
7. WHAT colour scheme (shades, tints and
colours) will you be using and WHY?
I believe that by keeping the colour scheme consistent through out my
Magazine really gives it a true Identity and brand. The main 3 colours
you will find in my magazine is the Vibrant Blue along with the
contrasting Black and white. I chose these colours as blue represents a
spiritual being as well as the night. Another reason why I chose this
colour because it connotes with the ocean/water. Themes of nature
come up a lot in my magazine including the graphic stream that runs
across the whole of my contents page. This ties in with the music as
the artists that will feature in my magazine write intense and meaningful
music. Nature is also an aspect with-in Indie/Hippy Culture.
8. WHAT essential information will be included in
your Contents Page e.g.
Features, reviews, commentary and WHY?
The magazine name(i-Magazine) will be included at the top of the page.
Other information such as Page numbers will appear next to the Page
titles.
9. HOW will you be arranging the information on
your contents page and WHY?
As I‟ve mentioned before, the information will have no strict order. This
realates to the theme of nature as a stream is free-flowing and has no
strict pattern. I wanted to incorporate this idea into my design. The Page
numbers well ascend as the stream goes on and gets closer to the
bottom of the page. I also intend to play around with the perspective of
the stream so realism can be achieved. I think this makes the
information a lot more attractive to read to a person glancing at the
page.
10. HOW will you make your Contents Page easy
for your audience to find the major cover story
or other stories?
My magazine promotes Indie undiscovered music and therefore everyone
gets an equal amount of coverage on the magazine. Magazine‟s such as
NME like to Promote a particular band so immediately the readers
believe they must me good. I like to leave the readers of my magazine to
come up with there own verdicts on artists and not have methods such
as more coverage blind them from what is talent. Therefore, every page
number/title will be the dame through out, and the reader can flip to any
page they wish.
11. WHAT type of fonts and font sizes (style of
lettering used) will you be using for your
Contents Page and WHY?
The Type used in my magazine will also be consistent. The Front Page as
well as contents will mostly (If not wholly) contain the Font “Bebas
Neue”. I Believe this font gives my magazine an identity an iconic feel .
I want the font as well as the other aesthetic to make my brand
recognisable if seen.
12. WHAT type of images, graphics (i.e. Boxes, borders and rules) will you be using to
make your Contents Page easy to navigate by your target audience and WHY?
WHAT four image shot types (this relates to the different types of shot used in
film, television, magazines or newspapers. These shots can have their own
connotations. A close-up is more intimate and personal. A low-angled shot makes
objects look bigger and more powerful.) will you be using for your Contents Page
