2. ABSTRACT
The main objective of this project is to develop a
device for wireless power transfer. The concept of
wireless power transfer was realized by Nikolas tesla.
Wireless power transfer can make a remarkable
change in the field of the electrical engineering which
eliminates the use conventional copper cables and
current carrying wires. Based on this concept, the
project is developed to transfer power within a small
range. This project can be used for charging batteries
those are physically not possible to be connected
electrically such as pace makers (An electronic
device that works in place of a defective heart valve)
implanted in the body that runs on a battery. The
patient is required to be operated every year to
replace the battery. This project is designed to charge
a rechargeable battery wirelessly for the purpose.
Since charging of the battery is not possible to be
demonstrated, we are providing a DC fan that runs
through wireless power.
This project is built upon using an electronic
circuit which converts AC 230V 50Hz to AC 12V,
3. High frequency. The output is fed to a tuned coil
forming as primary of an air core transformer. The
secondary coil develops a voltage of HF 12volt. Thus
the transfer of power is done by the primary
(transmitter) to the secondary that is separated with a
considerable distance (say 3cm). Therefore the
transfer could be seen as the primary transmits and
the secondary receives the power to run load.
Moreover this technique can be used in number
of applications, like to charge a mobile phone, iPod,
laptop battery, propeller clock wirelessly. And also
this kind of charging provides a far lower risk of
electrical shock as it would be galvanically isolated.
This concept is an Emerging Technology, and in
future the distance of power transfer can be enhanced
as the research across the world is still going on.
5. WHAT IS WIRELESS POWER TRANSMISSION
๏ The transmission of energy from one place to another
without using wires
๏ Conventional energy transfer is using wires
๏ The power can be transmitted using electromagnetic
waves like microwaves, radio waves or lasers.
WHY NOT WIRES
๏ 40% as per studies, most electrical energy transfer is
through wires.
๏ Most of the energy loss is during transmission
o On an average, more than 30%
o In India, it exceeds
6. WHY WIRELESS POWER TRANSMISSION
๏ Reliable
๏ Efficient
๏ Fast
๏ Low maintenance cost Can be used for short-range or
long-range
AN EXAMPLE -
7. ADVANTAGES
๏No wires
๏No e-waste
๏Need for batteryis eliminated
๏Efficient energy transfer using Resonance
Inductive Coupling(RIC)
๏Harmless, if field strengths undersafety levels
๏Maintenancecost is less
8. DISADVANTAGES
๏Distance constraint
๏Field strengths have to be undersafety levels
๏Initial cost is high
๏In RIC, tuning is difficult
๏High frequency signals must be the supply
๏Air ionization techniqueis not feasible
9. APPLICATIONS
๏Contactless smart card
๏High voltage (one million volt) sources for X-ray
production
๏Tesla coils
๏Some Passports
๏Recharging mobiles or computers, tooth brush
etc.
10. CONCLUSION
๏Transmission without wires- a reality
๏Efficient
๏Low maintenancecost. But, high initial cost
๏Better than conventional wired transfer
๏Energy crisis can be decreased
๏Low loss
๏In near future, world will be completely wireless
