Introduction
๏ƒ˜ The Transmission Of Power From One Place To
Another Without Using Wires, Cables, Or
Chords.
๏ƒ˜ Conventional energy transfer is using wires.
But the wireless transmission is made possible
by using various technologies.
๏ƒ˜ Transmission of energy through the air.
HISTORY
๏ƒ˜ In the year 1893,Nikola Tesla proposed the method
of wireless transmission of electric power.
๏ƒ˜ A group of engineers at MIT came up with the idea
to use resonant induction to transmit power
wirelessly.
๏ƒ˜ He built the wardenclyffe tower and this
was to be the first broadcasting system
in the world.
PROBLEMS IN PRESENT SCENARIO
๏ƒ˜ One of the major problem in existing power system is the losses
occuring in the transmission.
๏ƒ˜ High cost, difficult installation.

INDUCTIVE COUPLING
๏ƒ˜ Primary and secondary coils are not connected
with wires.
๏ƒ˜ Inductive coupling works on the principle of
electromagnetic induction.
Resonant Induction Coupling(RIC)
๏ƒ˜ When the two coils are adjusted so that they resonate at the
same frequency is called RIC.
๏ƒ˜ Resonance makes two objects interact very strongly.
MICRoWAVE POWER TRANSFER
๏ƒ˜ Aims at higher power transfer over longer distances
practically in the range of some miles.
๏ƒ˜ Steps:
o Conversion of electrical to microwave energy.
o Capturing of microwave beams by Rectenna.
o Conversion of microwave to electrical energy.

๏ƒ˜ AC can not be directly converted to microwave
energy.
๏ƒ˜ AC is converted to DC first.
๏ƒ˜ DC is converted to microwaves using magnetron.
๏ƒ˜ Microwaves produced at 2.45 GHz by using
Magnetron.
๏ƒ˜ Rectenna is used for collecting these Microwaves
(One and half mile long)
๏ƒ˜ Transmitted waves are received at rectenna which
rectifies, gives DC as the output
๏ƒ˜ DC is converted back to AC.
ADVANTAGES
๏ƒ˜ The main advantage is it is omnidirectional means the
electrical energy generated can be transmitted in all the
desired directions.
๏ƒ˜ Power theft would be not possible at all. WPT replaces the
use of power cables and batteries thus Installation cost
reduces.
๏ƒ˜ It eliminates mess of cords, reduces toxic battery waste,
reduces use of plastics ,rubber and metals.
๏ƒ˜ Creation of a shock free environment.
DISADVANTAGES
๏ƒ˜ High frequency signals must be the supply.
๏ƒ˜ Some of the WPT techniques such as rectenna
occupy large space.
๏ƒ˜ Cost of implementing WPT is expensive.
๏ƒ˜ Wireless transmission of the energy causes some
drastic effects to human body, because of its
radiation..
APPLICATIONS
๏ƒ˜ Near-field energy transfer:
o Electric automobile charging
o Consumer electronics
o Industrial proposes
๏ƒ˜ Far-field energy transfer:
o Solar power satellite
o Energy to remotes areas
๏ƒ˜ Tesla coils are used as leak detectors in scientific high vacuum
systems and igniters in arc welders.
๏ƒ˜ Moving target such as fuel free
airplanes , electric vehicles , moving robots.
CONCLUSIONS
๏ƒ˜ We realize that Wireless Energy Transfer & Electricity may
play a significant role in the future in the field of
Transmission of Electric power.
๏ƒ˜ During transmission of electric current through conductor
wires, a large portion of power is lost in form of heat
dissipation. However, with proper application of
โ€˜WIRELESS POWER TRANSFER TECHNIQUESโ€™, this
loss can be prevented and hence there would be better
utilization of electric power.

CONCLUSIONS ๏ƒ˜ We realize that Wireless Energy Transfer & Electricity may play a significant role in the future in the field of Transmission of Electric power. ๏ƒ˜ During transmission of electric current through conductor wires, a large portion of power is lost in form of heat dissipation. However, with proper application of โ€˜WIRELESS POWER TRANSFER TECHNIQUESโ€™, this loss can be prevented and hence there would be better utilization of electric power.
