Life Stories of Haji Abul Mubarak Nawab Ali
and Hajjum Begum Nurrurnessa Khatun
Introduction: Allah has created us for being indifferent
great in our individual area. For this he gifts everybody to
carry out a a few of His Characteristics so that he might be
known to all. Somebody exceed this limit and they became
red figure and eligible in the society. They never die but
live on their activities. They are evergreen figure in the
society. Most of them are man of grass root level. Step by
Step they enlarge their live span with patience and brave.
One of them Hajji Abul Mubarak Nawab Ali and his wife
Hajjum Begum Nurrurnessa Khatun who is the source of
his alive inspiration
Family Ground: Mr .Ali was a child of superior Muslim
family. His ancestors were inhabitant of Jangolbari. His
father was a farmer and tax collector. He was interested in
Education.His mother was a perfect house-wife.
Child-Hood: Mr. Ali Was born in 15th
September 1918
at the village of Lonkakhola of Gouripur Upazilla under
Mymensingh District.He grew up in a lovely village.He
mixed up with river, open air, board field and rural
almighty. He had to struggle for his education Span.
Because at that time education was little.So, he had to walk
seven miles to attend school. Yet he started his education
life from beginning of his Child-hood.
Education life : In his boy hood , AM Nawab Ali
admitted into primary School . After taking Primary
Education he submitted his admission into high school.
Completing his Secondary education he appeared at the
metric examination in 1938 from Gouripur R.K High
School under Calcutta University and he passed metric.
After that he got himself admitted into Mymensingh
Ananda Mohan College. He studied there up to 1940. He
passed Intermediate in 1940. Finally he graduated at
Ananda Mohan College 1942.
Active Life :AM Nawab Ali Started active life before
graduation for the British Colonial Government. He worked
as a Govt. clerk for more than 30 years. He also taught at
the school & squeezed funds out of private citizens & the
Govt. also. At first he worked in Mymensingh. Then he
transferred to Netrokona in Mymensingh.district. He
worked for job there near about 10 years. He posted there
head Clerk to Sub division officer. He again joined in
Mymensingh as an Account assistant to district
commissioner in 1960. He settled in there near about 16
years. On retirement from clerking, he took up farming and
devoted even more time to the school helping for raise its
status from Primary to high School. In his profession
period, he took up his duty with honesty.
Conjugal life : Mr ali married Begum Nurrurnessa
Khtun who was born in 1930. His wife was so pious. She
grew up in a nearby village. Mrs Ali always used to help
her husband. After all ,the couple were full of happiness.
They shared joy and enjoy one another .So their couple life
Mrs Ali and her activities : Mrs Ali was also born in
a traditional family. She was a learned women. She was
always carrying huge quality to maintain her family. Mrs.
Ali Was a well housewife and she was a great source of her
husband. In a word, with the assistance of her wife is found
established. At last she died in 1992.
Mr. Ali founder of a School : At that time there were
schools in the country side. Because most of the farmers
were ignorance about education. More that, farmer’s need
available child to help work the land.In that situation Mr.
Ali and his elder brother Moulna Yousuf Ali founded their
own school ½ miles outside the village of Lonkakhola.
They had to beg farmers to send their child to the school.
Raising funds were no easier than finding students. But
they raised funds by trying heart and soul. The School is
called Lankhakhola High School. Now it has 20 teachers
and necessary students. His family donates a lion share of
budget of the School. They patronize the school in various
sides.
Emigrant life : Bangladesh is the densely populated and
one the poorest countries in the world. So, many of
Bangalees are eager to go out of country. They want to get
emigration, specially in the U.S.A. For this Mr. Ali chosen
his emigrant life in America. Fortunately, he got a chance
to be emigrated there in 1981.He settled at Rochester in
America with everybody of his family up to last breath of
life.
At the age of 70, soon after he moved to Rochester . Mr Ali
opened a small business, Express Copy-N-Type service
downtown. And through the local lifespan employment
services he participated in employment-training programs
at various community agencies. He also enrolled in classes
at Monroe community agencies. His tiny shop in Wason the
seventh floor of the temple building not the best location
for customer service but less expensive than a downtown
street site. Then he turned to worldly matter s such as
gardening, teaching, Children Arabic at the Islamic centre
and keeping alive his school in Bangladesh.
Religious life: AM Nawab Ali was very pious Muslim.
From his boy hood he was impassioned to his own religion.
He used to pray regularly. He believed in religious rule. He
was an active member of the Local Muslim Community
and taught people how to read the Quran at the Islamic
Centre good man and a good believer. He also performed
Haj in 1978. On Friday afternoon, he would appear at the
centre of the west fall Road, sometimes after having walked
from his apartment in Rochester for prayer. He was there
early and in the front row. Otherwise, five times everyday
70 years old Mr. Ali turned to Mecca and prayed.
Well-Wisher of the Society: He might participate to
various social activities as a well wisher of the society. As a
social reformer he was known in his rural area. He stepped
necessary on others in dangerous movement. He helped
financially poor man.
Ultimate Moment: No man is immortal in the world.
Everybody would have accepted this truth. By the gesture
of Allah everyman will have to go to the next world.
According to the rules, we have to die. Mr.Ali is not
exceptional .So, he died of heart failure on Nov 2, 1999.
We are overwhelmed in his death. Though he is not alive
he lives on his renowned work.
Posterity: The name of his elder son is Mukhles Rahman.
He is one of the main posterity of Rahman’s family. He
illustrates the fruits of Ali’s devotion to education. After
graduation at the top of the class from Bangladesh Air force
academy. He earns his doctorate at the University of
Wiscons. And now work in a research scientist for Eastman
Kodak. He also teaches the engineering of composite
materials at the University of Rochester. In classical South
Asian tradition, he has been supporting his father’s work
driving him to English Classes and the library. So a month
ago he sets up his father’s copy shop.
In addition to his son , Mr .Ali by three others sons .Nurur
Rahman of Washington D.C; Mahabub rahaman of New-
York City and Faiz Rahaman of Chittagong, Bangladesh ,a
daughter , Nazma Nawab of Queens and 13 grand Children.
Briefly, it was given below chronological life history of
Haji AM Nawab Ali:
1918 Sep 15: Born in Village of Lankakhola, P.O:
Shahganj ,Gouripur ,Mymensingh , Bangladesh.
1938: passed matric from Gouripur High school.
1938 -40: Mymensingh Ananda Mohan college – passed
Intermediate H.S.C
1940-42: 42studies for Bachelor of Arts at Ananda Mohan
College but started working before graduation for the
British Colonial Govt.
1942-1951: Worked in Mymensingh.
Faiz Nurur , Mujib & Mukhles born – transfer to Netrokona
in Mymensingh District.
1952-60: Lived in Netrokona – Mahabub & Nazmma born
here _- Head clerk / assistant to Sub Diviosnal officer.
1960-76: Worked in Mymensingh Revenue dept/Govt.
service – Account assistant of District Commissioner
1976-87: Lived in Ramgopalpur & did farming –former-
performed Haji in 1978
1987-99: Rochester mainly student timekeeper ,Copy room
and print room helper ,time card recorder, Arabic and
Quran teacher/ICR.
Conclusion: Mr. Ali was popularly known in his rural
and emigrant area. Now he is physically absent but not in
man’s mind. His sympathy for the distressed, his protect
against injustice of the rich over the poor and works
prompts him every stage of his life. With his death we
plunk into mourning. He has buried beside his own
residence of village. He has been honored as a great man
forever. We remember him with respect. May he can be
happy in next world that is my expectation. I wish he could
have returned to this world. But it is impossible yet he is
staying in our mind. In the language of poet, I want to
remark:
“His Sincerest laughter
With some pain fraught
His sweetest days are those
That tell of saddest thought

  • 1. 13.Ataur Rahman Al-Amin Life Stories of Haji Abul Mubarak Nawab Ali and Hajjum Begum Nurrurnessa Khatun Introduction: Allah has created us for being indifferent great in our individual area. For this he gifts everybody to carry out a a few of His Characteristics so that he might be known to all. Somebody exceed this limit and they became red figure and eligible in the society. They never die but live on their activities. They are evergreen figure in the society. Most of them are man of grass root level. Step by Step they enlarge their live span with patience and brave. One of them Hajji Abul Mubarak Nawab Ali and his wife Hajjum Begum Nurrurnessa Khatun who is the source of his alive inspiration Family Ground: Mr .Ali was a child of superior Muslim family. His ancestors were inhabitant of Jangolbari. His father was a farmer and tax collector. He was interested in Education.His mother was a perfect house-wife. Child-Hood: Mr. Ali Was born in 15th September 1918 at the village of Lonkakhola of Gouripur Upazilla under Mymensingh District.He grew up in a lovely village.He mixed up with river, open air, board field and rural almighty. He had to struggle for his education Span. Because at that time education was little.So, he had to walk seven miles to attend school. Yet he started his education life from beginning of his Child-hood. Education life : In his boy hood , AM Nawab Ali admitted into primary School . After taking Primary Education he submitted his admission into high school. Completing his Secondary education he appeared at the
  • 2. metric examination in 1938 from Gouripur R.K High School under Calcutta University and he passed metric. After that he got himself admitted into Mymensingh Ananda Mohan College. He studied there up to 1940. He passed Intermediate in 1940. Finally he graduated at Ananda Mohan College 1942. Active Life :AM Nawab Ali Started active life before graduation for the British Colonial Government. He worked as a Govt. clerk for more than 30 years. He also taught at the school & squeezed funds out of private citizens & the Govt. also. At first he worked in Mymensingh. Then he transferred to Netrokona in Mymensingh.district. He worked for job there near about 10 years. He posted there head Clerk to Sub division officer. He again joined in Mymensingh as an Account assistant to district commissioner in 1960. He settled in there near about 16 years. On retirement from clerking, he took up farming and devoted even more time to the school helping for raise its status from Primary to high School. In his profession period, he took up his duty with honesty. Conjugal life : Mr ali married Begum Nurrurnessa Khtun who was born in 1930. His wife was so pious. She grew up in a nearby village. Mrs Ali always used to help her husband. After all ,the couple were full of happiness. They shared joy and enjoy one another .So their couple life Mrs Ali and her activities : Mrs Ali was also born in a traditional family. She was a learned women. She was always carrying huge quality to maintain her family. Mrs. Ali Was a well housewife and she was a great source of her husband. In a word, with the assistance of her wife is found established. At last she died in 1992.
  • 3. Mr. Ali founder of a School : At that time there were schools in the country side. Because most of the farmers were ignorance about education. More that, farmer’s need available child to help work the land.In that situation Mr. Ali and his elder brother Moulna Yousuf Ali founded their own school ½ miles outside the village of Lonkakhola. They had to beg farmers to send their child to the school. Raising funds were no easier than finding students. But they raised funds by trying heart and soul. The School is called Lankhakhola High School. Now it has 20 teachers and necessary students. His family donates a lion share of budget of the School. They patronize the school in various sides. Emigrant life : Bangladesh is the densely populated and one the poorest countries in the world. So, many of Bangalees are eager to go out of country. They want to get emigration, specially in the U.S.A. For this Mr. Ali chosen his emigrant life in America. Fortunately, he got a chance to be emigrated there in 1981.He settled at Rochester in America with everybody of his family up to last breath of life. At the age of 70, soon after he moved to Rochester . Mr Ali opened a small business, Express Copy-N-Type service downtown. And through the local lifespan employment services he participated in employment-training programs at various community agencies. He also enrolled in classes at Monroe community agencies. His tiny shop in Wason the seventh floor of the temple building not the best location for customer service but less expensive than a downtown street site. Then he turned to worldly matter s such as gardening, teaching, Children Arabic at the Islamic centre and keeping alive his school in Bangladesh.
  • 4. Religious life: AM Nawab Ali was very pious Muslim. From his boy hood he was impassioned to his own religion. He used to pray regularly. He believed in religious rule. He was an active member of the Local Muslim Community and taught people how to read the Quran at the Islamic Centre good man and a good believer. He also performed Haj in 1978. On Friday afternoon, he would appear at the centre of the west fall Road, sometimes after having walked from his apartment in Rochester for prayer. He was there early and in the front row. Otherwise, five times everyday 70 years old Mr. Ali turned to Mecca and prayed. Well-Wisher of the Society: He might participate to various social activities as a well wisher of the society. As a social reformer he was known in his rural area. He stepped necessary on others in dangerous movement. He helped financially poor man. Ultimate Moment: No man is immortal in the world. Everybody would have accepted this truth. By the gesture of Allah everyman will have to go to the next world. According to the rules, we have to die. Mr.Ali is not exceptional .So, he died of heart failure on Nov 2, 1999. We are overwhelmed in his death. Though he is not alive he lives on his renowned work. Posterity: The name of his elder son is Mukhles Rahman. He is one of the main posterity of Rahman’s family. He illustrates the fruits of Ali’s devotion to education. After graduation at the top of the class from Bangladesh Air force academy. He earns his doctorate at the University of Wiscons. And now work in a research scientist for Eastman Kodak. He also teaches the engineering of composite materials at the University of Rochester. In classical South Asian tradition, he has been supporting his father’s work
  • 5. driving him to English Classes and the library. So a month ago he sets up his father’s copy shop. In addition to his son , Mr .Ali by three others sons .Nurur Rahman of Washington D.C; Mahabub rahaman of New- York City and Faiz Rahaman of Chittagong, Bangladesh ,a daughter , Nazma Nawab of Queens and 13 grand Children. Briefly, it was given below chronological life history of Haji AM Nawab Ali: 1918 Sep 15: Born in Village of Lankakhola, P.O: Shahganj ,Gouripur ,Mymensingh , Bangladesh. 1938: passed matric from Gouripur High school. 1938 -40: Mymensingh Ananda Mohan college – passed Intermediate H.S.C 1940-42: 42studies for Bachelor of Arts at Ananda Mohan College but started working before graduation for the British Colonial Govt. 1942-1951: Worked in Mymensingh. Faiz Nurur , Mujib & Mukhles born – transfer to Netrokona in Mymensingh District. 1952-60: Lived in Netrokona – Mahabub & Nazmma born here _- Head clerk / assistant to Sub Diviosnal officer.
  • 6. 1960-76: Worked in Mymensingh Revenue dept/Govt. service – Account assistant of District Commissioner 1976-87: Lived in Ramgopalpur & did farming –former- performed Haji in 1978 1987-99: Rochester mainly student timekeeper ,Copy room and print room helper ,time card recorder, Arabic and Quran teacher/ICR.
  • 7. Conclusion: Mr. Ali was popularly known in his rural and emigrant area. Now he is physically absent but not in man’s mind. His sympathy for the distressed, his protect against injustice of the rich over the poor and works prompts him every stage of his life. With his death we plunk into mourning. He has buried beside his own residence of village. He has been honored as a great man forever. We remember him with respect. May he can be happy in next world that is my expectation. I wish he could have returned to this world. But it is impossible yet he is staying in our mind.
