1. Zac I thought you might what a copy of
some of these family photographs.
This is the living-room in Chappaqua
( the painting should look familiar). The
puppy in Ann's arms was Happy. My
mother is on the couch with my paternal
grandparents-Eden Augustus Townsend
Jr (Gus) and Edith Marie Coulter. 1967.
This is Christmas 1968. That dining
room wallpaper in Chappaqua was very
opulent.

2. The above picture is my grandfather Gus
with your grandfather Jack. I remember
Gus loved cartoons and would watch
them on television with me for hours. He
also taught me how to shoplift candy
before I was in elementary school (He
was an expert as a store-owner). My
Grandmother Marie was not amused.

3. These are pictures of my mother, your
grandmother : Barbara Mae Ingraham
On the left is Aunt Trish (Cheryl's mom)
These are your grandparents on the
beach in Rockport, Mass. We spent 2-3
weeks in August there every summer
until my Mom died in 1975 (on your
birthday!)
This is your Grandmother. I am not sure
if this is me, or earlier when my parents
lived in Queens. The hairdo suggests
1950's and Flushing, NY.

4. These are pictures of your Grandfather:
Dwight Jackson Townsend. He had an
Uncle Dwight on both sides of his
family.
This photo is either senior year in Apollo
PA. (He was class president and
valedictorian) or at Penn State during the
war.
This is your Grandfather in the early
1930's. I believe the photo on the piano
is his grandmother, my great-great
grandmother Gertrude.
This is your grandfather holding Dwight
after Dwight was baptized. Those are all
his grandsons.

5. These Pictures are from your paternal
Grandparents wedding - 11/11/1950
Gus and Maria Townsend on the left,
and my mothers' parents on the right:
Percy Arnold and Mae Ingraham, both
of the Ingrahams' died before I was born.
Chris met them both, Ann only Mae.
Mae was very unpleasant (according to
the family lore). The day Aunt Trish
graduated from High School, Percy
moved out and got an apartment. Percy
died reaching for a book in the York
public library---like a light bulb burning
out.
Nice Cake! (and check out the gloves on
Grandma).

6. These are very interesting concerning
the Townsend family in Apollo PA. The
booklet to the left is in perfect condition
and includes a history of Apollo written
by your Grandfather (below). I have
sealed them in plastic. Your Grandfather
also wrote a history of the Bank of New
York for the banks' bicentennial. It is, of
course, very complementary to
Alexander Hamilton. I have a copy of
the History with my books (somewhere).

7. This are two clippings from your
Grandfathers papers. Driving the Car is
my Grandfather (Gus) with his father in
the passenger seat. Gus' sister (Aunt
Louise) is in the backset, but I am not
sure which women she is? My father
quoted Aunt Louise often when he
cooked (apparently Louise had a very
high opinion of her own cooking).
"Well, if I do say so myself, that was
delicious".
Gertrude was my fathers' Grandmother
and ruled the Townsend household with
an iron fist. She was your great-great-
great Grandmother. My Grandmother
(Marie) had to enter the Townsend house
through the backdoor (with the servants)
until my father was born.
Gertrude's sister, Mrs. Steward was the
mother of the actor Jimmy Steward
(Cousin Jimmy). I only know that his
first Oscar was in their shop window in
Indiana PA. for years.

8. These are two interesting things I found
with my fathers stuff:
A complete NYTimes when JFK was
shot, I would assume there are many, but
no reason not to hang on to it. It makes a
nice companion piece to my Times copy
of the WTC bombings.
My father has about 10 of these first day
cancellations celebrating the ABA, for
whom he worked from about 1945 until
1960. I have to take them to a philatelist-
-who knows!
