1. In the extract it is clear that it is of a crime drama this is seen as most of the characters throughout
the clip are policemen and women.
The main character Jane Tennyson is a woman who is in charge this is against conventions of a crime
drama as it is usually a man as males are seen as more powerful characters then females. Jane is
shown as thick skinned, intellectual and in a position of high authority which is again breaking many
conventions of a crime drama.
Also the woman who is on the phone trying to find her daughter is more pro-active than the man
who is just sitting around this again shows she is more dominant than the man and again breaking
the main conventions of a crime drama.
When Jane Tennyson is talking to the other police officers she is talked to in a tone which is very
condescending this shows the other police officers don’t take her seriously also the dialogue used
whilst they are talking to her is very sarcastic again showing they don’t take her seriously and
showing the power they have over her.
Later on in the clip there is a scene where a bunch of youths are talking, the dialogue and tone they
use which involves a lot of slang is very common which highlights there class which is of a low
standard.
The scene is opened with incidental music which is high pitched and slow with drawn out notes
which gives an idea of the claustrophobia which would be involved with been incarcerated in a
prison. The guard who is walking through the prison is also shown as having high power as he is
shown throughout the clip in a low angle shot which makes the character look bigger thus making
him more powerful to the audience.
