1. • In what ways does your media
product use, develop or challenge
forms and conventions of real media
products?
2. Whilst researching and planning for my media
Product, I done two case studies on existing pop
magazines. By doing this, I was able to identify
and analyse concepts which I could use in my
magazine. these magazines were Q and Top of
the Pops.
3. Front Cover
The image on my front cover is not one that is
normally used on front covers. The covers on the
two magazines I analyzed have both got
individual artists so I can’t compare my cover to
them but after looking at some images of
magazines with bands on their covers, I didn’t
find any magazines that used a similar
photograph to mine.
Apart from the cover image, I have used
conventions of music magazines such as
cover lines, pull quotes, barcode, price and
date.
4. Masthead
The masthead for my
magazine was made using
a font on Photoshop as my
previous masthead didn’t
look that great on the
cover.
My masthead goes across the top of
my front cover and is in the font ‘Gilli
Sans Ultra Bold’ which stands out on
the cover and also is in the same
colour as the top one of my cover
stars is wearing which makes the font
fit in better on the cover with the
image.
5. Contents Page
The contents page in both the existing
pop magazines consisted of a single
page which images as well as the
contents in chronological order.
After analysing the contents pages of Q
and Top of the Pops I decided to use the
following conventions of real media
products in my magazine:
• images,
•contents in chronological order,
•editor’s note,
•links to social networking websites,
•page number
6. Double Page Spread
There are many aspects
of my DPS which use
conventions of real
media products. These
include:
Q&A,
columns,
image on one page,
pull quote,
description of what the
interview is
about, Initial of who is
speaking in the
interview as there are 2
people,
page number
Mention of social
networking websites to
interact with the
audience.
