1. Section 1
The circulation desk in the media center at Midway Elementary is located near the front
entrance. It is directly in front of the non-fiction section of the library. It is situated so
that the clerk that is working the circulation desk can see what is going on at any area of
the center. There is a section of the library with work tables and chairs set up for the
students to work in small groups or individually on their assignments. The library also has
a section near the storytelling area for students to sit and read for pleasure. The
computers are located to the left of the circulation desk. There is extra light near the
storytelling area due to large windows. There is also plenty of electrical lighting so that
the students have enough to enjoy the media center. The books are separated by fiction
and non-fiction. There is no wireless access available in the school. The only online
resource available to the students at home is the media center catalog. The media center
is very accessible for the special needs population of the school. The doors are wide
enough for wheelchairs, etc.

This section of the media center at Midway Elementary could use some work. Filtering
software does not play a role in the media center because students are not allowed to get
online with the computers. The only thing available at home to students is the media
center catalog through the media center’s website.
Section 4
The media center at Midway Elementary is an environment that is conducive to learning.
The media center has an area set aside for students to use for studying and completing
their school work. The media center also has a nice non-fiction section to be used for
research. The facility is very attractive. It is a fairly new school, so the building and
media center are very attractive. The school has an overall positive learning environment.
The school has plenty of space to accommodate the students, faculty and staff. The
media center could use more online resources and a larger selection of books. The media
center is good overall, but a larger selection and more online tools would greatly improve
the center.
In my opinion, a great addition to the media center at Midway would be the use of e-
books and e-book readers. With the use of technology rising every day, this would be a
great treat for the students. It may even increase the reading in the school. Some
children that may not read a traditional book would be fascinated by the e-books and e-
book readers. This would help to increase their reading levels as well.
Another great addition would be the ability for students to access resources online. With
that addition, filtering software would need to be used. The media center could also use a
greater online presence itself.
