6. School Data: Telfair County High school was built in 1959, and originally housed grades 8-12. In 1975, a new section of the high school was constructed to house grades 9-12. The old section became the middle school. Although the two schools are side by side, they function as separate campuses. In 1990, the high school was renovated to add a new wing of classrooms and to update the existing structure. In 2007, the high school experienced its biggest remodel to date. The entire school was gutted and rebuilt! New classrooms were added, athletic facilities were added, a new band room was built and covered walkways connecting the entire facility were added. A new and improved media center was also constructed at this time. The high school houses a student population of 475 students. The largest class is the freshman class, totaling 147 students. 46% of the student population is African American, while 48 % of the population is Caucasian. 6.0% of the student population is Hispanic, and 1.0% of the population in multi racial. 21 % of the student population are students with disabilities. The school is staffed with one principal and one assistant principal. Helping the administration are 50 faculty and staff members.
