Nurses have evolved into knowledge workers as defined by Peter Drucker in 1959. Drucker described knowledge workers as those who apply formal training and theoretical knowledge to develop products and services. Nurses meet this definition as they use acquired medical knowledge to care for patients. Modern technologies have changed how knowledge can be obtained, through increased data collection and analysis tools. This has empowered nurses to be knowledge workers in new ways. The assignment asks students to consider how the role of nurse leaders has evolved to make them knowledge workers, and to create a PowerPoint with an infographic explaining nurses as knowledge workers.
