An ice cream festival will be held on July 4, 2012 from 3:00pm to 6:00pm at the Eastern Promenade in Portland to benefit Mercy Hospital's youth programs and Share Our Strength, a nonprofit combating childhood hunger. Tickets cost $8 for adults and $5 for children 10 and under, and can be purchased from Mercy's marketing department, the Maine Red Claws, Quirk Chevrolet, and Share Our Strength. The event will be rescheduled for July 5th in case of rain.

Mercy’s “Best Shot for Youth” program helps underwrite free sports physicals for girls and
boys and also supports projects such as the renovation of the Study Center at Riverton and
the rehabilitation of outdoor basketball courts such as those in Windham and Kennedy Park.
Share Our Strength is a national nonprofit organization that finds childhood hunger where
it hides and works through a network of community groups, activists and food programs to
reach hungry children. The Preble Street Teen Center, The Good Shepherd Food Bank, Cul-
tivating Community and Opportunity Alliance are examples of SOS partner organizations.
