2. This media sector, the film industry, is to make films. One of the key
companies in the film industry isWarner brothers, they have also been
around since 1923 which makes them one of the longest lasting film
company ever. Some of the key jobs in the film industry are the people that
make and design the films like the director, as the director you would
control the whole film and be able to put your own image ideas and your
creativity into the film.Another key job it the cameramen, as a cameraman
you would work under the directors guidance to create and get the camera
shots that they want. However films have to be rated by the ages that can
watch them.The BBFC (British Board of Film Classification) are the British
company that decides on the age certificates of films. Some of the key
industry's in film are Lionsgate, Sony, 20th centaury fox and Disney.
3. The founders of the film companyWarner brothers where Albert, Harry,
Sam and jackWarner.They were founded in 1923 and their first film was
calledThe Jazz Singer and this was also the first ever “talkie” film and this
meant that the sound and also the motion picture were both in time.They
are also well known across the world for their recent films like, Harry Potter
Deathly Hallows Part 1 and 2.They are also very well known for their looney
tunes kids series.Warner brothers don’t have a target audience because
they have made many different film aimed at many different ages.
4. TheTV industry is the largest industry in the media sectors.The biggestTV
industry in the UK is BBC, the British BroadcastingCorporation.They have $
channels BBC 1/2/3/4.They are also free to watch without adverts, they
make all their money but selling theirTV shows around the world for them
to put into their own language.The governing body for theTV industry also
like the film industry is Ofcom. Ofcom watch all the shows and programs
that any channel wants to air and see if they are at an ok standard and they
also decide what time the show should be aired because if it is shown at a
too early time people might complain that it is indecent to watch for
children.
5. SkyTV was founded on October the 1st 1998. Sky are a subscription channel
so you have to pay monthly to continue having their channels and their
services. Sky are the most used payTV channel in the UK and Ireland.Their
most popular selling points are, Sky sports and Sky movies.They also have
sky 1 where they create their ownTV drama such as Revolution andArrow.
6. Radio:The transmission and reception of electromagnetic waves of radio
frequency, especially those carrying sound messages.
Examples of radio stations: radio 1/2/3/4, capital FM, wave 105 ect
The radio has been the first device to allow for mass communication. It has
enabled information to be transferred far and wide, not only nationally wide
but internationally as well.The development of the radio began in 1893 with
NikolaiTesla’s demonstration of wireless radio communication in St. Louis,
Missouri. His work laid the foundation for those later scientists who worked
to perfect the radio we now use.The man most associated with the advent
of the radio is Guglielmo Marconi, who in 1986 was awarded the official
patent for the radio by the British Government.
The governing body for radio broadcasting is Ofcom. Ofcom is funded
by fees from industry for regulating broadcasting and communications
networks, and grant-in-aid from the Government.
8. The print industry is magazines newspapers and other forms of printed
media.The key company's in this sector andThe daily mail, the sun and the
independent. Some of the key job roles in this industry could be, a journalist
a photographer or editor of the magazine or newspaper.The governing
sector of the print industry is the Ofcom for the UK.
9. The sun was founded in 1964 and it is one of the largest selling newspapers
in the UK, because of its interesting story's and their great sport sections.
They have been involved and written about many controversial news story’s
in history including the Hillsborough stadium disaster, in February they also
launched the newspaper ‘News of the world’ where they employed some of
their former journalists and created a new newspaper.
10. Although the online industry has not been around as long as the other
industry's it has exploded into life, things like FacebookTwitter andYouTube
have become one of the most used everyday life online industry's.The
online industry self regulates and they have their own rules. For example
YouTube they have rules that if you do not have the copyright for the music
the video will be taken down however you can the music for 20 seconds
without the copyrights for the music.You are also not allowed nudity in your
videos onYouTube.
11. YouTube is a video sharing website, created by three former PayPal
employees in February 2005 and owned by google since late 2006, on which
users can upload, view and share videos.The company is based in San Bruno
California , they show anything that the user wants to upload
including video clips TV clips, and music videos , and amateur content such
as video blogging , short original videos, and educational videos.They have
now made there company into a multi billion pound company with over 10
million users a day.
