[Expert Panel] New Google Shopping Ads Strategies Uncovered
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge the forms and conventions of realmedia products?
1. In what ways does your media product
use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
2. Challenging media conventions
My cover artist challenges the
form of media convention within
the rap genre due to being a white
female in a stereotypical Africa-
American male industry. I have
challenged this convention
because I feel that the rap
industry isn’t representative of the
entire audience that is interested
in that type of music. This strategy
enables my magazine to reach out
to females as well as males
making my magazine appeal to
both genders.
3. Using media conventions
Byline
Use of left third to attract the
audience. This is where the
most important articles should
be placed
Brand logo placed in the top
left hand corner so that the
consumer is able to see and
establish what magazine it is
without need to see the entire
logo
Only one image on front cover
either being a close up or
medium shot so the audience
can relate to the artist
Range of typography and well
as font sizes and colours.
4. Using media
conventions -Brand logo
Through my research I noticed that many
successful magazines not just within the
music sector used a Red box behind white
bold text for their brand logo.
I decided to also use this for my logo as it
was evident that it does attract consumers
as many big institutions (shown right) use
this marketing strategy.
The red connotes with hot giving an
impression $$$ magazine is the hottest
new magazine around. The read also
connotes with stop which hopefully makes
the consumers stop and buy the
magazine.
With this my media product has used the
forms and conventions or an established
magazine in order to help penetrate it into
the market.
5. Using forms and conventions –
contents page
My layout of my contents page is
similar to the one of my style
model as the cover story image is
larger than the other images
indicating that it is the most
important story in this months
issue,
Secondly, both magazines have
used text boxes in order to
highlight different information so
that is stands out to the audience.
Lastly, both have used a different
colour for pages numbers so it is
much easier to find the
section/page you are interested in.
6. Using media conventions – double
page spread
3 columns per page
My magazine uses oversized quotes from the
interview similar to other magazines. This attracts
the readers attention so they read the quotes and
are then intrigued to find out more so read the
entire story.
Keeping the same colour scheme through out
showing continuity.
