5. The Humiliation- Josh 2:9
Exod 23:27 I will send my fear before thee, and
will destroy all the people to whom thou shalt
come, and I will make all thine enemies turn
their backs unto thee.
[In repulsion and rejection]
Deut 2:25 This day will I begin to put the dread
of thee and the fear of thee upon the nations that
are under the whole heaven, who shall hear
report of thee, and shall tremble, and be in
anguish because of thee.
[Righteousness creates a spectacle]
6. Hate Is Resistance to Humility
John 7:7 The world cannot hate you; but me
it hateth, because I testify of it, that the
works thereof are evil.
John 15:19 If ye were of the world, the
world would love his own: but because ye
are not of the world, but I have chosen you
out of the world, therefore the world hateth
you.
8. The Horror- Josh 2:9
Josh 2:9
9) And she said unto the men, I know that the LORD
hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen
upon us…
11) And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts
did melt...
[All humanity ends in one of two classes: the Conqueror
or the Conquered.]
10. The Horde- Josh 2:9
Josh 2:9
9) …your terror is fallen upon us, and that
all the inhabitants of the land faint because
of you.
11) And as soon as we had heard these
things, our hearts did melt, neither did
there remain any more courage in any man,
because of you: for the LORD your God, he
is God in heaven above, and in earth
beneath.
12. The How- Josh 2:10
Josh 2:10
10) For we have heard how the LORD dried
up the water of the Red sea for you, when ye
came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the
two kings of the Amorites, that were on the
other side Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom ye
utterly destroyed.
Obedience to the commandments = righteousness
Deut 6:24-25
24) And the LORD commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the LORD our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as it is at this day.
25) And it shall be our righteousness, if we observe to do all these commandments before the LORD our God, as he hath commanded us.
Righteousness resulted in possession of Canaan
Deut 8:1 All the commandments which I command thee this day shall ye observe to do, that ye may live, and multiply, and go in and possess the land which the LORD sware unto your fathers.
Righteousness creates a spectacle
Ps 112:9 He hath dispersed, he hath given to the poor; his righteousness endureth for ever; his horn shall be exalted with honour.
Righteousness creates converts
Isa 1:27 Zion shall be redeemed with judgment, and her converts with righteousness.
Josh 2:8-12
8) And before they were laid down, she came up unto them upon the roof;
9) And she said unto the men, I know that the LORD hath given you the land,
and that your terror is fallen upon us,
and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you.
10) For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red sea for you,
when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites,
that were on the other side Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom ye utterly destroyed.
11) And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt,
neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you:
for the LORD your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath.
12) Now therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by the LORD,
since I have shewed you kindness, that ye will also shew kindness unto my father's house,
and give me a true token:
The Humiliation- Josh 2:9
Josh 2:9
9) And she said unto the men, I know that the LORD hath given you the land…
If only the 12 spies had had as much faith… “hath given you”. She places the future as fulfilled in the present.
Though a heathen, her knowledge of God is clearly seen being understood by His demonstration of supreme power.
In Rahab’s gospel, there was not a single promise. She saw two or three of the mighty acts of the Man of War and understood herself to be the enemy to be next eliminated.
Exod 23:27 I will send my fear before thee, and will destroy all the people to whom thou shalt come, and I will make all thine enemies turn their backs unto thee. [in repulsion and rejection]
Deut 2:25 This day will I begin to put the dread of thee and the fear of thee upon the nations that are under the whole heaven, who shall hear report of thee, and shall tremble, and be in anguish because of thee.

[All humanity ends in one of two classes: the conqueror or the conquered.]
John 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace.
In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer;
I have overcome the world.
1John 5:4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world:
and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

John 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned:
but he that believeth not is condemned already,
because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
Matt 7:13 Enter ye in at the strait gate:
for wide is the gate, and broad is the way,
that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
2Cor 6:17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate,
saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,
Gal 5:24 And they that are Christ’s
have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

Josh 2:10
Josh 2:10
10) For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red sea for you,
when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites,

Josh 4:23-24 23 For the LORD your God dried up the waters of Jordan from before you,
until ye were passed over, as the LORD your God did to the Red sea,
which he dried up from before us, until we were gone over:
24 That all the people of the earth might know the hand of the LORD,
that it is mighty: that ye might fear the LORD your God for ever.
The miracle of the Red Sea had taken place forty years before.
This was equal to half a lifetime.
If living then, Rahab could have been only a child.
“The two kings of the Amorites” had recently been destroyed.
The power of God, though separated by 40 years between demonstrations,
was infallible proof of her guilt and impending doom.
The Hankering- Josh 2:12
Josh 2:12
Josh 2:12
12) Now therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by the LORD,
since I have shewed you kindness,
that ye will also shew kindness unto my father's house,
and give me a true token:
The Red Sea made Rahab do nothing;
The death of Sihon, though noted,
still did not move Rahab to action;
The overthrow of Og,
though closer to home,
still finds Rahab in Jericho.
But the coming of the spies with a declaration of war,
suddenly made the invisible hand of God come into focus.
Now she is no longer under the delusion
that the Egyptians were sinners above herself.
She clearly sees Sihon and Og were not
sinners above all that dwelt in Jericho.
With a death sentence looming over her head
she makes a final request; “…Give me a true token”
Without asking Joshua,
or calling for a meeting of the foreign affairs office,
the spies do what they have been commissioned to do.
Josh 6:17
17) And the city shall be accursed, even it, and all that are therein,
to the LORD: only Rahab the harlot shall live,
she and all that are with her in the house,
because she hid the messengers that we sent.
John 15:16
Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you,
and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit,
and that your fruit should remain:
that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.
2Cor 5:18
And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ,
and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
The Prime ministry of a Christian is to be the Prime Minister of Reconciliation.
2Cor 5:20
Now then we are ambassadors for Christ,
as though God did beseech you by us:
we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.
