BE NOT DECEIVED
1. Be Not Deceived
Matt 24:4; Luke 21:8; Gal 6:7
Matt 24:4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed
that no man deceive you.
Luke 21:8 And he said, Take heed that ye be not deceived: for
many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and the time
draweth near: go ye not therefore after them.
Gal 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a
man soweth, that shall he also reap.
I. ENCHANTMENT…enticing words.
COLOSSIANS 2:4
And this I say, lest ANY MAN should beguile you with enticing
words.
These people use their speaking abilities to lead people
away from the Bible to their own cult following.
1Cor 2:1; 1Cor 2:4; 1Cor 2:13; 1Tim 6:20;
2. 1Cor 2:1 And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not
with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto
you the testimony of God.
1Cor 2:4 And my speech and my preaching was not
with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in
demonstration of the Spirit and of power:
1Cor 2:13 Which things also we speak, not in the words
which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy
Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with
spiritual.
1Tim 6:20 O Timothy, keep that which is committed to
thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and
oppositions of science falsely so called:
Result of this deception
Ps 55:21 “drawn swords”
The words of his mouth were smoother than butter, but war
was in his heart: his words were softer than oil, yet were
they drawn swords.
Eph 4:14 “tossed to and fro”
That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and
fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the
3. sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie
in wait to deceive;
Eph 5:6 “the wrath of God”
Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of
these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children
of disobedience.
II. IDEOLOGY …philosophyand vain deceit…
COLOSSIANS 2:8
Beware lest ANY MAN spoil you through philosophy and vain
deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the
world, and not after Christ.
The Philosophy of the modern age is…
“Reject any negative truths that might affect your pleasure,
income or image.”
All philosophers pride themselves on their LOGIC.
1John 4:4-5; Gen 6:5; Gen 20:11; Gen 38:15; Gen 48:11; Gen 50:20; Isa 55:8; Gen 3:5
1John 4:4-5
4. 4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them:
because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the
world.
5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world,
and the world heareth them.
Gen 6:5 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was
great in the earth, and that every imagination of the
thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
Gen 20:11 And Abraham said, Because I thought, Surely
the fear of God is not in this place; and they will slay me
for my wife's sake.
Gen 38:15 When Judah saw her, he thought her to be an
harlot; because she had covered her face.
Gen 48:11 And Israel said unto Joseph, I had not
thought to see thy face: and, lo, God hath shewed me also
thy seed.
Gen 50:20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me;
but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this
day, to save much people alive.
Isa 55:8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither
are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.
5. Gen 3:5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof,
then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods,
knowing good and evil.
III. IMPOSITION …judge you…in respect of…
COLOSSIANS 2:16
Let NO MAN therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in
respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath
days.
This is a warning against legalism.
2Cor 10:12; 2Cor 10:18
2Cor 10:12 For we dare not make ourselves of the
number,
or compare ourselves with some
that commend themselves:
but they measuring themselves
by themselves,
and comparing themselves among themselves,
are not wise.
2Cor 10:18 For not he that commendeth himself is
approved, but whom the Lord commendeth.
6. IV. IDOLATRY …voluntary humility and
worshipping…
COLOSSIANS 2:18
Let NO MAN beguile you of your reward in a voluntary
humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things
which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind.
1Cor 8:1; Col 3:5; Zech 10:2; Ps 96:5; Rom 1:25
1Cor 8:1 Now as touching things offered unto idols, we
know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up,
but charity edifieth.
Col 3:5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon
the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection,
evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:
Zech 10:2 For the idols have spoken vanity, and the
diviners have seen a lie, and have told false dreams; they
comfort in vain: therefore they went their way as a flock,
they were troubled, because there was no shepherd.
Ps 96:5 For all the gods of the nations are idols: but the
LORD made the heavens.
7. Rom 1:25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and
worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator,
who is blessed for ever. Amen.
Conclusion:
God holds the deceived and deceiver guilty.
1Tim 2:14
14And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being
deceived was in the transgression.
