2. PREPARATION FOR UGC-NET/JRF
National Eligibility Test (NET) is held for postgraduate candidates
who are seeking admission in PhD or university level teaching
jobs. UGC (University Grants Commission) administers the
humanities and arts discipline while CSIR (Council of Scientific
and Industrial Research) administers science and engineering
disciplines.
The exam is so competitive that many candidates do not clear it
despite many attempts.
The UGC-NET/ JRF exam of December 2017 was conducted in 84
subjects at 1700 exam centers across the country. The total
candidates who applied for the exam were 9.30 lakh and out of
these, around 6.20 lakh appeared in the exam. Out of this huge
number of participants only 35,731 candidates were given NET
while 3702 got JRF.
3. The above chart clearly shows how tough this competitive
exam is, because it is not enough to just get qualifying marks.
Rather, one has to defeat the competition and carve one’s
place among the top 6 percent out of more than 6 lakh
candidates. For this, one needs to prepare well and have very
deep knowledge of the subject.
4. Keep yourself
Motivated
The path is not an easy
one, but one definitely gets
paid for hard work and
dedication. So just have
faith in yourself, plan well
and achieve your goals.
Don’t Lose
Confidence
It’s normal to get nervous
but when you have decided
to take the exam, then also
have the confidence that
you will clear it.
5. TIPS FOR PREPARATION
Cover your
Syllabus Well
Since the syllabus of the NET
exam is really vast, the
candidates need to be
thorough with it. A systematic
approach should be adopted
in order to cover each and
every topic.
Consult your
Seniors
Proper guidance from senior
students about how to
conduct your study is very
important, rather
indispensable.
6. TIPS FOR PREPARATION
Refer to Good Books
The very first key to success in the NET
is proper management of resources.
Candidates should choose good books
under proper guidance.
Prepare Notes
Notes should be very concise, clear and well
written, so that they are handy for last
minute revision.
7. TIPS FOR PREPARATION
• To master the topics, discuss them
with your friends. It helps you to
revise the subject, and at the same
time helps your friend too.
Try to Teach

• Read your notes for quick revision
and self-analysis.
