Though he attended the University of Iowa during his freshman year, Walt Hommerding graduated with a BS in accounting from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is the managing director in charge of investments at Wells Fargo Advisors in Newport Beach, California. Walt Hommerding is a past board member of the Capistrano Valley Symphony and a supporter of the Wounded Warrior Project. Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) was founded in 2003 and raises public awareness for service members and provides support to veterans who incurred mental or physical injuries related to their military service on or after the September 11, 2001 attacks. The nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization provides life-changing programs to veterans and warriors at no cost to the recipients. Amid the summer 2021 developments in Afghanistan, WWP mounted a campaign of support for veterans of the Afghanistan War, many of whom experienced anger, frustration, and sadness. About 400 WWP teammates made calls of solidarity to the warriors as the news unfolded from Afghanistan. The objective was to remind the warriors that they are not alone and connect them to resources such as mental health support, now and in the future.
