Founded in 2000, the FPA has five membership packages. The
most popular is the CFP Professional for Certified Financial
Planners. The Allied Professional membership package is for

The Aspiring Financial Planner package is for those seeking to
become financial planners. Individuals may be members of
this category for a maximum of four years. Those who tutor
financial planning at a degree or certificate level, including
high school, can also apply. Member Emeritus membership is

work less than 20 hours per week in financial planning.
Each membership package has a different membership fee.
In some cases, additional fees may apply. For example, some
states, such as California and Florida, require members to pay
an annual state council fee. Also, newly certified CFP
professionals may enjoy a discount or complimentary
membership for a period, and members living abroad may
receive a discount.
