RBC Bearings is the leader in self-lubricating technology with our patented Fiberglide®
liners. Will lead to an a3 factor less than 1. If the lubrication is supior and the operating speed
high enough, a significant improved lube film can develop between the bearing's internal
contact surfaces justifying an a3 factor greater than 1.0. To safely use this benefit for design
or commercial reasons requires a thorough analysis and either test data or previous
experience.

The other two classes of plain bearings can run in all three conditions; the condition in which
a bearing runs is dependent on the operating conditions, load, relative surface speed,
clearance within the bearing, quality and quantity of lubricant, and temperature (affecting
lubricant viscosity).
Headquartered in Philadelphia, PA, USA, Kingsbury designs and manufactures a wide
variety of standard and custom fluid-film thrust and journal bearings for rotating journal &
thrust combined bearing equipment applications, including hydroelectric, gas and steam
turbines; compressors, gearboxes, pumps, air preheaters and ship propulsion systems.
By supplying lubricant to the leading edge of the tilt pad and allowing the lubricant to freely
leave the bearing and its housing, ‘Directed Lubrication' bearings operate with lower power
losses and at lower operating temperatures than flooded bearings, where the lubricant is
typically introduced into the bearing away from the film and flow out of the bearing is
restricted.
Consequently, circumferential pressure profiles will develop in the fluid lubrication medium at
points of compression on the external journal surface 12 of shaft 11 in the manner indicated
by the dotted line 24. These circumferential pressure profiles extend axially along the length
of the bearing in Vthe manner indicated by the dotted lines 22 and 21 in FIGURE l,
respectively.
Ball mill journal bearing. Correct alignment of all devices in contact with the bearing shaft
cannot be overemphasized. By using two stabilizing rings, placed on either side of the outer
race, the bearing is located axially. A typical hydrodynamic double acting thrust bearing is
pictured in Figure 3.20.1.
