Film Evaluation and Stereotyping
1. Film Evaluation Sheet
1. Can you give two examples from the film as to why people stereotype?
People like to label others because it makes them feel better and they
only judge what is on the outside. Racism, blonde women are dumb,
clothing – girls with short skirts, goths with shaved hair, boys with baggy
jeans etc.
2. How does stereotyping damage people? Give one example from the
debate that we had.
Damages them mentally, it can lead to bullying. One example was the
London riots young people were blamed for looting etc. Actually only one
quarter were under 18
3. What ways did you pick out as to how people stereotype one another?
Clothing categories people into a certain group. If you are out with you’re
mates and you are making a lot of noise, adults
4. How does society encourage stereotyping?
Society encourages stereotyping by the use of media, which influences a
sometimes sexist approach for example as most times you see only black
people on the front of magazines for sport related things or gang
violence.
5. Can we ever stop stereotyping?
It is very unlikely a stereotyping can be found everywhere and most of
the time it isn’t on purpose either.
6. How can we improve people’s attitudes towards one another?
Treat everyone equally, treating people the way you want to be treated.
Maybe put out a positive message to people.
