superstitions regarding shoe
flinging. In my own opinion, since
the lyrics talks about someone who
died. I believe that this belief is the
closest:
Shoes tied together and hanging
from tree branches connotes that
someone has died. It means that
the shoes belonged to a dead
person and when their spirit
returns, it will walk that high;
much closer to heaven.
This is considered as symbolic since
shoes dangling in tree branches does not
look like death.

sips on it as well. The cigarette was their form of
goodbye kiss although it was an indirect one.
The music video talks about two
people who unexpectedly
developed a relationship much
deeper than friendship. However,

with another person.
At the end of the music video,
where they, including her lover,
were at a party, this scene was
showed as their last interaction.
Cigarette generally means bad or
dangerous (indexical). The guy
blew from it and passed it on to the
girl which she gladly received. I
believe the cigarette meant they
both accepted their sins (symbolic)
and stop from there.
