1. A Prayer For The People of God
God, you promise never to forsake us,
but to bring us to life,
nurture us with your presence,
and sustain us even in the hour of our death.
Meet us in our deepest doubts
when we feel abandoned,
drowning in our fear of your absence.
Visit us in the tension between our yearning and our anger,
that we may know your mercy and grace in our time of need.
Amen.

The “Duel Speech Pattern” of ScriptureThe “Duel Speech Pattern” of Scripture
5. Indeed, the word of God is
living
and active, sharper than any
two-edged sword, piercing until
it divides soul from spirit,
joints from marrow;
it is able to judge the
thoughts and intentions
of the heart.
HEBREW
S 4:12
6. And before him
no creature is hidden,
but all are naked
and laid bare
to the eyes of the one
to whom we must
render an account.
HEBREW
S 4:13
7. “Aslan is a lion-
the Lion, the great Lion."
"Ooh" said Susan.
"I'd thought he was a man.
Is he-quite safe? I shall feel rather
nervous about meeting a lion."
"Safe?" said Mr. Beaver ...
"Who said anything about safe?
'Course he isn't safe. But he's
good. He's the King, I tell you.”
8. A bruised reed
he will not break;
A smoldering wick
he will not snuff out
He will faithfully
bring forth justice

9. Since, then, we have
a great high priest
who has passed
through the heavens,
Jesus, the Son of God,
let us hold fast
to our confession.
HEBREW
S 4:14
10. “...the exaltation of Christ...
was from the lower world (earth)
through the middle world
(heavens)
to the higher world (the place of
God’s presence). In a similar way
the high priest on the day
of atonement passed from
the courts of the tabernacle
through the holy place
into the holy of holies.”
11. Since, then, we have
a great high priest
who has passed
through the heavens,
Jesus, the Son of God,
let us hold fast
to our confession.
HEBREW
S 4:14
12. Hello hurricane
you’re not enough
Hello hurricane
you can’t silence my love
I’ve got doors and windows
boarded up
All your dead-end furry
is not enough
you can’t silence my love
13. For we do not have
a high priest who is
unable to sympathize
with our weaknesses,
but we have one
who in every respect
has been tested as we are,
yet without sin.
HEBREW
S 4:15
14. Let us therefore approach
the throne of grace with
boldness,
so that we may receive mercy
and find grace to help
in time of need.
HEBREW
S 4:16
15. “This isn’t arrogance. Indeed,
if we understand who Jesus is,
what he’s done and what
he’s still doing on our behalf,
the real arrogance would be
to refuse to accept his offer of
standing before the father
on our behalf, to imagine we
had to bypass him and
try to do it ourselves.”
N.T.
16. “Receiving ‘grace’
has to do with being
understood, accepted,
regarded, favored,
and supported
by God.”
17. “The Black Church has
never viewed ‘grace’ as
but a theological nicety,
it was and is to (black men
and women) a means of
life and strength – a source
of support and balance
and self-certainty in a world
whose approval of blacks is
still in extremely short supply.”
18. “We cannot do anything,
and there is a sense of liberation
in realizing that. This enables us
to do something, and do it
very well. It may be incomplete,
but it is a beginning, a step
along the way, an opportunity
for the Lord’s grace to enter
and do the rest.” Oscar
Romero

21. Mark 12
Hear, O Israel:
the Lord our God, the Lord is one;
you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart,
and with all your soul, and with all your mind,
and with all your strength.’
And, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’
There is no other commandment
greater than these.
