Global Climate Change, Sustainable Development
The Global Environmental Movement is one of the many (NGO's) addressing international issues,
mostly in developing countries, gathering and analyze technical information. Environmental issues
have become a significant problem over the years, which raised concerns at the global and
international levels, which provoke movements for environmental protection at the international
level. From the early 1960s forward, concern about the global scopes of environmental harm and the
movement for international environmental protection grew significantly. The first issues such as oil
spills, nuclear testing, and overfishing was the areas targeted for ratification by the United Nations,
concerning the environmental protection of Antarctica. Increasing concerns over loss species and
poorer nations in the lack of resources lead to these three major issues, biodiversity, global climate
change, and sustainable development in which the paper will discuss. Keywords: biodiversity,
global climate change, sustainable development International Environmental Movements
Introduction
There are settings where international environmental disputes are arbitrated, such as National courts,
the International Court of Justice, and international panels. These meetings, however, generally
require that the disputing parties freely submit to the jurisdiction of the court or board.

The Environmental Degradation Of Natural Resources
The environmental degradation of natural resources, such as fresh water resources and fish or sea
live stocks have become burning issue of potentially violent conflict between the nations. There are
numerous historical examples that related to this issue. For example, the Ethiopian decision to store
Nile water behind the walls of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam have brought ongoing tension
between the Egypt, the Ethiopia and Sudan.
The second characteristic is the relationship between environment and intercontinental conflicts.
Environmental degradation, climate change, and lack of access to natural resources can lead to the
eruption of violent conflict. Increase in poverty, increased pandemic disease, migration to other

Because the Mongolian mining sector is considered to be the most harmful donor to environmental
destruction unless it is correctly managed and controlled. Therefore, it has been observed with the
deepest concern that chaotic coal mining and other mining operations strip the top soil without
required environmental remediation. Furthermore, outnumbered and disordered mining activities
that cover nearly the entire country lead to water pollution, dried up of fresh water resources,
encroachment on protected areas, mercury and sodium cyanide poisoning. For example, according
to statistics of the Ministry of Environment, Green Development and Tourism of Mongolia, "More
than 18610 rivers, lakes, and streams were counted in 2007, but it decreased to 12861 in 2011,
which covers one third of the Mongolian fresh water resource dried up within 4 years." In addition,
uncontrolled, disorganized distribution of exploration and mining licenses accelerated
environmental destruction.
Contamination from human waste, livestock, and seasonal flooding have also posed a serious threat
to water resources. Thousands and thousands of illegal miners who poison the water with mercury
and sodium cyanide to explore gold left wide range of territory with unprocessed wastes and
poisoned water resource. Thus, above catastrophic threats pose serious security threat to Mongolia

Clean and Green
CLEAN AND GREEN maintain our environment clean and green
Keep plants around the house. Plants are amazing at cleaning their environment. Having them in
your house can reduce indoor air pollutants by more than half. Great choices are English ivy and
peace lilies, which absorb toxic gases like benzene and formaldehyde. Just be sure that if you have
pets and/or small children that you opt for plants that are not poisonous.
Never flush your old medications. In almost everyone's medicine cabinet there is expired
medications. But whatever you do, do not flush them! That puts them into the water, which can be
dangerous. Instead inquire at your pharmacy about whether they will take them and dispose of them
properly. If they cannot handle them ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If enough people do this they will eventually listen.
Use cloth instead of paper. Using paper napkins and paper towels generates a lot of unnecessary
waste. Did you know that the paper industry is the third greatest contributor to global warming
emissions? So instead of paper, opt for cloth. A great source of rags is to use old clothes that are too
stained or tattered to be worn anymore.
Use rechargeable batteries. If yours is like most households, you have a lot of things that run on
batteries. Everything from the TV remote to your camera. And if you have children you can add a
seemingly endless number of toys to the list! Do the environment a favor and use rechargeable
batteries. They cost more upfront but they generate significantly less waste and in the end will save
you money. Solar powered battery rechargers are even available online.
Find out what you can recycle. Different cities accept different items for recycling. It is important
that you know exactly what is being recycled in your area. A lot of people put out items week after
week thinking they are being recycled when in fact they are being thrown in the garbage at the
recycling facility. By knowing the policies in your city you can avoid buying products that are not
sold in recyclable containers and you can ensure you are putting out all of your garbage that can be
recycled.

Arsenic Contamination Essay
Introduction
Beside the natural activities, almost all human activities also have potential contribution to Arsenic
contamination in the environment as side effects occurs in many parts of the world and is a global
problem. In many areas As level has crossed the safe threshold level. Large–scale groundwater
pollution by geogenic arsenic (As) in West–Bengal and Bangladesh has recently promoted this
element into an environmental pollutant of prime concern. Epidemiological studies have
documented various adverse effects on the human population. Arsenic contaminated soils,
sediments, and sludge are the major sources of arsenic contamination of the food chain, surface
water, groundwater, and drinking water (WT Frankenberger & Arshad, 2002). Other potential
sources of arsenic contamination are the chemicals used extensively in agriculture as pesticides,
insecticides, defoliants, wood preservatives, and soil sterilants (AZCUE & NRIAGU, 1994).
Currently available techniques for the remediation of As contaminated soil are very expensive and
time–consuming, often hazardous to workers, and capable of producing secondary wastes (LOMBI,
ZHAO, DUNHAM, & MCGRATH, 2000). Phytoextraction, the use of green plants to clean up
contaminated soil, has attracted attention as an environmentally– friendly, low–input remediation
technique. It uses plants that extract heavy metals from the soil and accumulate it in the harvestable,
above ground biomass.

In 2005, after securing an investment of $3 million from Golden Opportunities Fund Inc. 3 in the
form of senior secured debentures, the company constructed a fixed soil reclamation facility in
Wolseley,
Saskatchewan. This facility was capable of treating a wide variety of soil contaminated with POPs,
industrial sludge and waste pharmaceuticals. The location was chosen so that PS2 could target the
markets in both Eastern and Western Canada, and in the United States. The facility, which had a
capacity of 20,000 tons per year, was permitted to treat a wide variety of pollutants. It was one of
only three fixed facilities in
Canada permitted to treat PCB and dioxinifuran–impacted soil. In late 2005, the facility became
operational and started generating revenue. It was fully commissioned in early 2006.
PS2 generated revenue by securing service "contracts" for the treatment of contaminated soil or on a
"feefor–service basis," wherein small quantities of contaminated soil were accepted from
customers. Its eustomer base comprised environmental service companies, utility companies and
general industry. The number and size of contracts obtained each year for contaminated soil varied
and depended on the funding that customers had budgeted for remedial projects.
PS2 went public in 2007 through a reverse merger with West Mountain Capital Corporation (WMT),

Population Environment And The Slums Of Mumbai
INTRODUCTION:
This research paper focuses on the population–environment dynamics in the slums of Mumbai. It
mainly discusses the impact of the growing slum population on water quality in Mumbai. First, the
research question and null hypotheses were stated based on the population, environment, social and
cultural contexts. Readings from class and other peer reviewed articles were used to support the
stated hypotheses and highlight the important aspects of the case study. Next, the important
population characteristics were discussed and compared to other relevant places and a summary of
the environmental and social context was also provided. Finally, the population–environment
relationship was summarized for the chosen case site (Null hypotheses true or not) and implications
of human actions on the natural world were discussed.
RESEARCH QUESTION AND HYPOTHESES:
Mumbai, India's financial hub is home to more than 20 million people. Historically, slum growth in
Mumbai was a result of population growth far beyond the total carrying capacity. It resulted in
overuse of traditional land, displacing a heavy chunk of the lower–middle class population to
informal settlements. Villages like Dharavi, Byculla and Khar with small scale industries got
converted into slums during this process. The rapid economic development in the 19th century also
brought in a lot of migrant population from the rural areas into a city ill–equipped to deal with them

A. ANALYSIS OF ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ON REMEDIATION AND REUSE OF
CONTAMINATED LAND.
A contaminated land is a land which contains substances that are actually or potentially hazardous to
health or the environment. Land can also be defined as contaminated if only there is significant
pollutant linkage. This means that, there must be: * an evidence of the presence of a contaminant, a
pathway and a receptor that might suffer ''significant harm'', * a ''significant possibility of significant
harm'', * Signs that pollution of control waters is occurring or is likely to occur.
This definition is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This could be as a result of Ignorance towards land protection and related systems. * Unfavourable
and harmful irrigation practices.
* Improper household and industrial septic system and management and maintenance of the system
* Leakages from sanitary sewage unto adjourning lands. * Acid rains, when fumes released from
industries get mixed with rains.
Fuel leakages from automobiles, that gets washed away due to rain and seep into the nearby land or
soil.
* Unhealthy waste management techniques, which are characterized by release of sewage into the
large dumping grounds and nearby streams or rivers. * There are possibilities of accidental spills
from oil refineries, illegal landfill sites, petrol stations gas works, etc.
The Potential contaminants with industrial uses which are used for assessment of industrial land are
organic contaminants and inorganic contaminants. The potential organic contaminants include
acetone, oil or fuel hydrocarbons, benzene, chlorophenols, ethylbenzene, toluene, etc. of lands.
Their receptors are mostly Humans, Water, Vegetation and the Ecosystem and construction materials
or buildings.
The potential inorganic contaminants which can also be found in contaminated lands are metals,
semi–metals and non–metals and inorganic chemicals. Examples of metals present in the soil are
Barium, berrillium, cadmium, chromium, copper, lead and zinc.
Semi–metals and the non–metals include Arsenic, Boron,

Wall-E versus Feed on Society
"Technological progress has merely provided us with more efficient means for going backwards"
("Brainy Quotes" 1). While this epitomizes modern time, it also represents M.T. Anderson's Feed
and Pixar's Wall–E. Feed is a book about a dystopian society influenced by a device, called "feed",
implanted in the brains of the citizens. The author describes a group of regular teenagers that venture
to the moon for a spring break vacation of partying and going "in mal". The main character, Titus,
falls for a girl named Violet who is not like the other stereotypical teens in this book. Violet received
the feed when she was much older and she is homeschooled so her brain is more developed.
Together, they go on outrageous adventures until a hacker at a dance club causes them to lose their
feeds. Unfortunately for Violet, repairing her feed was practically impossible; meaning, Violet was
slowly dying. Together, Titus and Violet question society, feed, and the way of life as they create
their journey in the book, Feed. In Pixar's Wall–E, the world has been abandoned by all of humanity
because of the over polluted atmosphere. However, one creature still exists on earth, a garbage–
collecting robot named Wall–E. One day, a futuristic, well–developed robot arrives on earth
inspecting the earth of any species of life. Wall–E falls in love with the robot, Eve, and when she
returns home on her spaceship, he hops on and catches a ride to space. There, Eve and Wall–E work

Personal Statement For Environmental Engineering
Preserving the environment is one of the most critical issues we are facing today. How we act now
will determine the fate of future generations. What really inspired me to consider environmental
engineering as a profession was my Advanced Placement Environmental Science class in high
school – it opened my eyes to global issues such as overpopulation, loss of biodiversity, inefficient
energy sources, irresponsible waste disposal, etc. – and it motivated me to want to do something
about it. What I want to ultimately accomplish in this field of work is facilitate the growth of the use
of renewable energy sources, support responsible population reduction initiatives, and develop
agricultural practices that ensure food and water security for every single person on the planet. The
nature of the work varies depend on what one wants to specialize in. Many engineers work in office
settings (with a great deal of operational record keeping, paperwork, and technical reports), but it
often requires hands–on work and on–site oversight, especially when working in construction,
ecosystem remediation, natural resource cultivation, or waste management. Oftentimes, engineers
work over 40 hours a week in order to meet deadlines and finish all their tasks. On average, daily
face–to–face, email, and telephone communication, and group collaboration with contractors, staff,
and clients are necessary for careers offered to environmental engineers. At the same time,
independent work is emphasized.

Argumentative Speech On Ecotechnology
Global perspective has given us so many topics that are the blessing in disguise, and our newest
topic is about the technology in our daily life. The topic gave us food for thought because there were
so many interesting technologies that you couldn't decide which one should you choose. Luckily, we
finally decided that the topic would be ecotechnology.
Our group includes Gia Anh, Tetsuro and me. At first, I thought that the topic could be too hard for
us because this was not an easy topic to do, but now we have finally managed it like people usually
said that every cloud has a silver lining. So now let me explain to you what does ecotechnology
mean. Ecotechnology is an applied science that find a way to fulfill human needs while causing the

During Ecotechnics in 1995 – International Symposium on Ecological Engineering in Östersund,

designing future societies within ecological frames". That's the reason why we need everybody to go
green by making their homes more energy efficient. It can increase your comfort and save for you a
lot of money by making your home more energy efficient. The first thing you can do is to turn off all
the electric devices in your house wherever you don't need to use it. If you want it to be more easier
for you, then installing a power stirp into your house in order to turn off all the electric devices that
you do not use is the right way for you to save the electricity and make the world cleaner. Moreover,
you can save a huge amount of water with electricity by hanging your clothes outside and let the sun
and air dry your clothes for free. And even through it's a little bit strange to do this, but in order to
save more water, we need to set an alarm clock from 15–20 minutes when we take a shower. I know

Fisher’s tenure began a series of changes at Kodak: cost–cutting measures were introduced, faster
decisions were encouraged and there was a move towards proactive business strategies. An informal
manager, Fisher replaced the rigid hierarchical organization at Kodak and delegated decisions to line
managers. The change in also resulted in a refocus of activities which resulted in reductions of 9,000
jobs worldwide during 1994 and 1995 – almost 10% of the workforce. The company posted a net

Corporate Environmental Efforts
Kodak has a history of health, safety, and environment (HS&E) awareness. The company’s formal
commitment to HS&E began in 1936 with the creation of the Laboratory of Industrial Medicine. By
the late 1980s the company had instituted HS&E policies and performance standards, and a
corporate HS&E assessment program. Additionally, the corporate strategic planning processes
included HS&E priorities. A corporate–level HS&E Management Council was created at Kodak in
1989. The Council brings senior company officers together to provide direction and establish
policies affecting performance. By the 1990s, HS&E criteria were beginning to be included in
performance tracking, and prevention–based HS&B programs were encouraged.

Interior Design At The Present Time
Introduction:
This essay aims to look at ethics within interior design at the present time. I will research the most
common ethics related to interior design and gather information from different research methods
Methodology:
The three main research methods used to gather information on Ethics within interior design at the
present time was a literature review, looking into the main ethics within interior design currently,
The second research method was a survey that looked at the consumers thoughts on these ethics,
asking them about there knowledge of Environmentally friendly alternatives and there own choices
for there homes The third research method used was a case study of a construction project in Seattle,
where architecture firm Case Design, designed and built two ECO friendly homes. It looks at the
environmentally friendly features used and also the benefits that these ECO homes had to the local
area.
Literature review:
One of the research methods used was a literature review looking into ethics within interior design.
It will look at the main ethics at the present time. When researching into the main ethics in current
design the main topic found was sustainable and environmentally friendly design. There were many
articles talking about the need for sustainable design but also the need for a fare trade of these
sustainable materials.
When looking into the ecological side of ethics in design the first article, named Ethical House, was

Glanbia's Internal and External Environment
The Organisational Domain and The External Environment
An organisation's domain is its chosen environmental field of action. It is the territory that the
organisation stakes out for itself with regard to products, services and markets served. This is also
strongly affected by the organisation's external environment. The external environment incorporates
all the elements that exist outside the boundary of the organisation and have the potential to affect
all or part of the organisation.
Task Environment:
The task environment includes external sectors with which the organisation interacts with directly

DATE: Nov/03/2016
PAGES READ: 13–55 This section of the book first gives an introduction explaining the project by
the author Philip Beesley, in collaboration with others, Hylozoic Ground. It is an installation that
was presented at la biennale di Venezia 12th International Architecture Exhibition. In this
installation, Canada offers a vision for a new generation of responsive architecture exploring the
boundaries between environment, building, technology and human experience. Beesley defines the
Hylozoic Ground as an "immersive, interactive sculpture environment organized as a textile matrix
supporting responsive actions, dynamic material exchanges, and 'living technologies'". Later on, the
chapter called Synthetic Geology by Geoff Manaugh, talks about future possible applications to
Beesley's works like new soil deposits, new agricultural fields, and new landscapes, landfills
remediation, archeological excavation and the possibility of colonizing distant planets. The last
chapter of this section, Liberating the Infinite Architectural Substance by Neil Spiller, is about
liberating the attributes of the material world, both man–made and natural, and that to Beesley the
"prima materia" is the Earth. It also explains how the Hylozoic Ground make you experience a
"microcosm of the city's macrocosm".

Chemical And Biological Properties Of Soil Pollution
It is always difficult to remove contaminations from soils because it contains many toxic chemicals
such as (Pb, As, Cu, Cd, Cr, Ni, Hg and Zn). This chemicals mixed with the soil after burning of
industrial waste, electronics waste or uses of agricultural technology. Then rain water makes it seep
deep into the soil and cause soil pollution. This makes it so difficult and time consuming to remove,
particularly when the affected area is on a large scale. Soil is made of by two components which are
organic and inorganic solid constituent, water and mixture of different gasses present in various
proportions. The mineral component in the soil varies, according to the parent material which the
soils had been developed due to the issue of different type of climate conditions. Also, soil can also
be classified into three different properties, physical, chemical and biological properties. Physical
properties of soil are being controlled by soil water movement, such as texture and soil structures.
The soil moisture have high tendency in controlling solute movement, salt solubility, chemical
reaction and microbiological activities and most importantly the bioavailability of metal ions. In this
situation, a successful phytoremediation program must be considered as an alternative in the specific
site. In the past lots of researchers have tried different method in order to mitigate or reclaim the
heavy metals polluted soils, but so far phytoremediation is the best of all because it is

Executive Summary
There are a number of reasons why we should care about brownfields. From encouraging urban
sprawl through the 'development' of greenfields to their environmental impacts on soil, air and
ground water, these properties are a drain upon the urban environment. Redevelopment of
brownfields are complicated by the potential contamination of hazardous waste, heavy metals and
pollution that has been left behind in the soil. Although this land can be used once the soil has been
cleaned, landowners are not financially ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Financial, public and legal risks play a large role in the redevelopment of a brownfield. These risks
(and the costs attributed redevelopment) are further compounded by the complexity of the site;
depending upon the size, type, and contamination level of a given property.4 Each brownfield has its
own story, its own history; no two brownfields are alike, as each comes with its own problems and
challenges. It is because of this, that British Columbia Ministry of Environment has categorized
brownfields into 3 separate categories, representing the standard deviation of potential
redevelopment brownfield projects. At either side of the deviation (+/– 15 – 20%) are your 'easy
choices' for redevelopment. If the sight is on the high end, then redevelopment pushes forward,
driven by market forces because these properties are highly profitable once reclaimed. On the other
hand, if it is on the low end, remediation and redevelopment costs are usually higher than the

Environmental Pollution And Natural Resource Management
Our existence depends on how well we plans and implement policy through international
cooperation. As our population continue to increase in the twenty–first, it will provide us with the
clue about how we make sustainable plans about our future generation. Our present generation
continue to consume more resources than what is presently in production, thus increasing
consumption level which have created water shortages, forest depletion for urbanization, more
energy consumption, and food crisis, diseases and many more environmental problems. As the result
of this, a evolving of transboundary effects of environmental pollution and natural resource

The Potentinal for Ozone in BTEX-Contaminated Sites
Ozone is a highly–oxidative chemical known to be capable of degrading many types of organic
contaminants, including both chemicals and organisms. It is known in the grain industry to be useful
for disinfecting cereals without affecting quality of the cereal. This includes microbial inactivation,
killing pests, degrading certain pesticides and fungicides, and mycotoxins (Tiwari et al. 2010).
Ozone also has an important role in the treatment of wastewater for similar reasons. It is used in the
treatment train at both the Alfred Merritt Smith and River Mountains treatment plants in Las Vegas
(SNWA 2014). The ozonation processes in these plants kill off bacteria and microorganisms by
bubbling ozone into the wastewater. As ozone dissipates within several minutes, no residue is left
after treatment, though certain disinfection byproducts can potentially be formed depending on the
constituents in the wastewater, and the placement of ozonation in the treatment train (Gerrity et al.
2010). Certain organic contaminants of interest, including ___, tend to have long half–lives and low
water–solubility, which can make traditional and natural forms of remediation ineffective. The past
decade has shown that ozone can be used in the remediation of contaminated soils, primarily by in–
situ ozonation systems. As mentioned previously, ozone is an unstable chemical that has a half–life
of around two minutes (Dey, Rosenwinkel, Wheeler 2002). In the process of oxidation, ozone reacts

Research Paper On Polluter Pays Principle
What is polluter pays principle?
The polluter pays principle is one of the basic principles of sustainable development. The polluter
pays principle(PPP) means that there is an absolute liability for harm to the environment and the
person who is responsible for the environment pollution is liable to pay compensation to the victims
of the pollution and also the cost of restoring the environment degradation.
Thus the "polluter pays principle" includes environmental costs and cost to the people or their
property.
According to the PPP the responsibility to disapprove the environmental damage is upon the
polluter. Principle –16 of Rio–declaration of 1992 enunciates that the polluter should bear the cost of
pollution.

Es & G And Ehs Management Practices
In today's business matter, numerous perspectives emphasize sustainability. Several environmental,
social, and governance issues, including health and safety among other factors, have contributed to
the diverse aspects of sustainability. The complex business reforms brought by the Environmental,
Health and Safety (EHS), including social and governance (ES&G) issues remain indistinctive in
several disciplines. Some widespread proposals exist over the application of, ES&G and EHS
management practices and methods. To understand sustainability, it is essential to discover how it
has emerged and maintained a business focus.

Policymakers must consider a new development paradigm because it concerns public welfare.
Future generations must be taken into account when creating these developments within the
paradigm. Not only should the paradigm consider the interdependence of economic, social, and
environmental dimensions, but also human needs must be met without compromising the future
generation's quality of life.
One must observe that sustainability, is conceptually a broader interception of environmental, social,
and economic issues. In 1989, William Rees, a professor with a creditable Ph.D. in population
ecology, suggested that an agreeable universal definition of the concept "sustainable development"
was precondition to developing acceptable policies and plans to support this concept. During the
same year, Swedish doctor named Karl–Hendrick Robert, assembled a group of scientists and
researchers. Similarly, he believed the term lacked practical sense, thus his mission was to reach a
scientifically meaning for it. Subsequently, the research concluded that stainability is the capacity of
the human society to continue indefinitely within the cycles of natural environment. A broad
connotation on sustainable development created a complex

Our group includes Gia Anh, Tetsuro and me. At first, I thought that the topic could be too hard for
us because this was not an easy topic to do, but now we have finally managed it like people usually

over consumption and utilization of natural resources. Everyone in the world faces great challenges
from the climate changes that have occurring now dues to the human–induced greenhouse gas
emissions and fossil fuel combustion. From the climate changes, it can cause severe negative

Thereby, protecting the environment has become a major issue in society (Krause, 1993 and
Easterling, Kenworthy & Nemzoff, 1996). According to Brown (1996), it is stated that it's become
an important of the environmentalism in the marketplaces as consumers are recognizing the
importance of people to protect the environment. Hence, increasing number of individual
committing the environmentally friendly behaviour can be led by increasing the awareness of the
seriousness of the environment problem (Kalafatis, Pollard, East & Tsogas, 1999). Despite of all of
the concern by the customer and citizens towards the negative consequences for the environment
and the changes in the practices in the hotel towards the green hotel, still we cannot see clearly in
depth about the customer actual perceptions toward the problems and the changes in the industry
especially hotel industry. Primary indicator of attitudes towards environmentally compatible
behaviour is perceived importance of the environment which is related to the degree to which
consumer express their consciousness's of environmental issues. (Amyx, DeJong, Lin & Wiener,

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Bioremediation?
Abstract:
Bioremediation is the technology which is used to clean up the environmental pollutants.
Bioremediation can be introduced as an efficient and cost effective method for the cleanup of
contaminated waste water. Waste water contains heavy metals like Cadmium,Chromium, Nickel,
Lead, Selenium,Arsenic, and Zinc. These metals are poisonous to the human body system. These
metals can be removed using this technique. Currently microorganisms are widely used in
Bioremediation process, generally in waste water treatments. Microorganisms are used for
bioremediation process because they synthesize enzymes to use environmental contaminations as
foods. Also microorganisms are very small so they are able to contact contaminations
easily.Microbial bioremediation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Disadvantages of Bioremediation Bioremediation will produce high mobile toxic bi products by
breaking down the organic contaminants ,if the process is controlled .The toxicity level and the
environmental conditions in the ground are sensitive to bioremediation e.g.–these conditions are
useful for microbial activities ,by considering the factors like temperature , alkalinity ,pH
It is advised that field monitoring to break the rate of biodegradation of organic contaminants. It will
be difficult to control the volatile organic compounds (VOC s), if the process is used in an ex–situ
condition. This treatment time is longer than other remediation technologies. Only the biodegradable
compounds are used to treat effectively in the range of contaminants. Leaves residual levels that can
be highly toxic and persistent .because there is not defined level of "clean site" it is difficult for the
performance evaluations. So they have performance criteria regulations.
.Conclusion:
Bio remediation is a low cost, less hardworking, massively applicable process that is able to remove
toxic and unnecessary chemicals, organisms from the environment for the benefit of mankind. This
is applicable for the use of both animals and plants. But, it's main advantage is for human. Also,
there is a need of having a short treatment time to reduce

Environment Injulity : The Driving Roots Of Environmental...
In an age of social activism and political controversy, it is necessary to not only identify injustices in
our society, but to also note their interconnectedness with each other. Even if some people might
deny environmental concerns, addressing them is urgent during a time of rapid climate change and
pollution. Environmental issues are often looked at through a scientific lense, but it is also essential
to view them through a social lense in terms of equality associated with environmental issues.
Environmental Justice calls for "fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people regardless
of race, color, national origin, or income with respect to the development, implementation and
enforcement of environmental laws, regulations and policies" (Mohai 2016: 2). However, treatment
of specific groups in situations of environmental disasters of general poor living conditions proves
that environmental inequality is incredibly prevalent in our society. Even though they are in some
ways interconnected, race and class are the driving roots of environmental injustices. Race is a
significant root of environmental justice because minority communities are subject to more harmful
environmental issues and receive inadequate assistance. When looking at the Flint Water crisis, the
severity of the lead contamination portrays the environmental racism linked with the situation. The
Flint Water Crisis Task force reported that, "Flint residents, who are majority Black or African

Improvements in Water Quality
In Malawi the major sources of water for both domestic and industrial use include lakes, rivers and
ground water. Ground water is dependable for supplying water in rural areas and also in some urban
areas even though this source of water is most common in the rural areas. In some urban areas, the
major source of water are rivers. According to Government of Malawi (2010), many river basins are
under severe pressure resulting from deforestation, settlements, climate change, industry, mining,
commerce and unsustainable agriculture. These have consequently impacted negatively on the water
quality mainly due to sediment loads, industrial wastes, chemicals from agriculture and proliferation
of aquatic vegetation. In urban areas, especially areas with high concentration of people, the major
problem has been management of waste disposal. This has resulted in plastics that are just littered
anyhow in the major urban areas including Blantyre ending up in rivers. Ground water though
viewed as one of the safe sources of water, there are also a number of quality issues that are
associated with it. According to Government of Malawi (2010), some of the issues include high
concentrations of minerals such as fluoride, nitrates especially in agricultural areas, manganese and
fecal matter in some areas. All in all, these issues make ground water quality to be degraded too. It is
clear from above that improvements in water quality are no longer evitable. Failure to doing this

Statement Of Environmental Engineering
When I think about the different realms of science and engineering, it is difficult to think of a
domain that is going to change the world as much as environmental engineering will, in the decades
ahead.
Humanity has always engineered the environment around us. From the earliest days of wetland
drainage and the need to acquire fresh water, to keep it flowing and keep it clean enough to drink,
building cesspits to take away our waste and to stop pollution of vital waterways, we have always
strived to maximize our sanitation and living conditions in order to expand and survive. Since the
industrial revolution in the 19th century we have needed to prevent businesses and individuals from
polluting the environment with harmful substances. Thus the need for proper utilization of our
resources and waste management is greater than ever before. Research in the field continues at a
more ferocious pace than ever, faster ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Sociological Issues On Social Issues
When thinking about sociological issues taking place in our society today, issues concerning our
environment commonly are not ones we put on the top of the list, however they should be. It is not
that any of the other social issues do not matter, but without a world to live on, or an environment to
live off of those other issues would not even be taking place. Our environment has been something
that we neglect and carelessly use for our own personal economic growth because it is what has
been done for many years. We are destroying our world's land and using up its natural resources and
are even wasting them without concern about what consequences are resulting from doing so. There
are ways that we could fix and eliminate problems that we have caused to our environment, but in
order to do so we will have come together and put in the effort to make the change and become
more environmentally conscious in the aspects of our everyday lifestyles.
Much of our world's land is destroyed to provide for our growing population through the occurrence
of deforestation which causes loss of biodiversity and soil depletion. There are natural causes of
deforestation such as wildfires, but most of it occurs through urban development and most notably
agricultural development. We destroy acres of forests in order to have more land for cattle and other
farm animals to graze upon, but also to have land to produce grain that won't be fed to us, but to the
animals. It is also seen that a majority of

The Duwamish river in Seattle is the habitat for thousands of trout and salmon, but it is also a river
that has become heavily polluted due to large industrial factories operating right next to the
river(Cordell, 1). For my volunteer project, I chose to work with EarthCorps on Saturday, May 6th
from 10AM–2PM at Terminal 105. Terminal 105 is a public park of approximately 1 acre that
contains picnic tables, a boat launch, and lots of trees and plants(Terminal 105 Park, 1). While this is

These industries are doing serious damage to the health of the Duwamish river with the hefty
amount of pollution that they are pouring into the river, "This area sits on the banks of what has
been determined by the Environmental Protection Agency to be one of the country's most polluted
waterways"(AmericanForests, 1). As this shows, the pollution problem here is even more severe
than many people realize. One can only imagine how hazardous this is to the variety of marine life
that inhabit this river. If this trend continues, thousands of fish will lose their habitat in the
Duwamish river, "In addition to experiencing degraded habitat in the estuary, wild salmon growth
may be affected by competition with more than three million hatchery fish released yearly into the
river"(Cordell, 1). If this habitat is continuously infiltrated by harmful pollutants, especially these
toxic chemical pollutants from these large industrial factories, the health of the Duwamish river will
only continue to exponentially deteriorate and it will take a major toll on the organisms that rely on
it for habitation. This will have a devastating impact on not only the marine life of the Duwamish
River, but also to surrounding marine habitats as increased competition will take place for nearby
habitat with the Duwamish River becoming uninhabitable. Ultimately, this will lead to the death of
countless fish and other nearby organisms that rely on these fish as part of their food chain. With so
many species becoming endangered and extinct across the world due to human carelessness, the

Trump's Impact On The Environment
Economic growth and social development are complementary and have a close but complex
relationship. With the economic growth, it is clear there have been lasting damaging effects on the
environment today. For example, water, air, and land pollution have worsened, and the environment

extinction, deforestation and over–exploitation of mineral resources. With the recent nomination for

Global Climate Change, Sustainable Development

  • 1. Global Climate Change, Sustainable Development The Global Environmental Movement is one of the many (NGO's) addressing international issues, mostly in developing countries, gathering and analyze technical information. Environmental issues have become a significant problem over the years, which raised concerns at the global and international levels, which provoke movements for environmental protection at the international level. From the early 1960s forward, concern about the global scopes of environmental harm and the movement for international environmental protection grew significantly. The first issues such as oil spills, nuclear testing, and overfishing was the areas targeted for ratification by the United Nations, concerning the environmental protection of Antarctica. Increasing concerns over loss species and poorer nations in the lack of resources lead to these three major issues, biodiversity, global climate change, and sustainable development in which the paper will discuss. Keywords: biodiversity, global climate change, sustainable development International Environmental Movements Introduction There are settings where international environmental disputes are arbitrated, such as National courts, the International Court of Justice, and international panels. These meetings, however, generally require that the disputing parties freely submit to the jurisdiction of the court or board. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. The Environmental Degradation Of Natural Resources The environmental degradation of natural resources, such as fresh water resources and fish or sea live stocks have become burning issue of potentially violent conflict between the nations. There are numerous historical examples that related to this issue. For example, the Ethiopian decision to store Nile water behind the walls of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam have brought ongoing tension between the Egypt, the Ethiopia and Sudan. The second characteristic is the relationship between environment and intercontinental conflicts. Environmental degradation, climate change, and lack of access to natural resources can lead to the eruption of violent conflict. Because the Mongolian mining sector is considered to be the most harmful donor to environmental destruction unless it is correctly managed and controlled. Therefore, it has been observed with the deepest concern that chaotic coal mining and other mining operations strip the top soil without required environmental remediation. Furthermore, outnumbered and disordered mining activities that cover nearly the entire country lead to water pollution, dried up of fresh water resources, encroachment on protected areas, mercury and sodium cyanide poisoning. For example, according to statistics of the Ministry of Environment, Green Development and Tourism of Mongolia, "More than 18610 rivers, lakes, and streams were counted in 2007, but it decreased to 12861 in 2011, which covers one third of the Mongolian fresh water resource dried up within 4 years." In addition, uncontrolled, disorganized distribution of exploration and mining licenses accelerated environmental destruction. Contamination from human waste, livestock, and seasonal flooding have also posed a serious threat to water resources. Thousands and thousands of illegal miners who poison the water with mercury and sodium cyanide to explore gold left wide range of territory with unprocessed wastes and poisoned water resource. Thus, above catastrophic threats pose serious security threat to Mongolia that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Having them in your house can reduce indoor air pollutants by more than half. Great choices are English ivy and peace lilies, which absorb toxic gases like benzene and formaldehyde. Just be sure that if you have pets and/or small children that you opt for plants that are not poisonous. Never flush your old medications. In almost everyone's medicine cabinet there is expired medications. But whatever you do, do not flush them! That puts them into the water, which can be dangerous. If enough people do this they will eventually listen. Use cloth instead of paper. Using paper napkins and paper towels generates a lot of unnecessary waste. Did you know that the paper industry is the third greatest contributor to global warming emissions? So instead of paper, opt for cloth. A great source of rags is to use old clothes that are too stained or tattered to be worn anymore. Use rechargeable batteries. If yours is like most households, you have a lot of things that run on batteries. Everything from the TV remote to your camera. And if you have children you can add a seemingly endless number of toys to the list! Do the environment a favor and use rechargeable batteries. They cost more upfront but they generate significantly less waste and in the end will save you money. Solar powered battery rechargers are even available online. Find out what you can recycle. Different cities accept different items for recycling. It is important that you know exactly what is being recycled in your area. A lot of people put out items week after week thinking they are being recycled when in fact they are being thrown in the garbage at the recycling facility. By knowing the policies in your city you can avoid buying products that are not sold in recyclable containers and you can ensure you are putting out all of your garbage that can be recycled. • 4. Arsenic Contamination Essay Introduction Beside the natural activities, almost all human activities also have potential contribution to Arsenic contamination in the environment as side effects occurs in many parts of the world and is a global problem. In many areas As level has crossed the safe threshold level. Large–scale groundwater pollution by geogenic arsenic (As) in West–Bengal and Bangladesh has recently promoted this element into an environmental pollutant of prime concern. Epidemiological studies have documented various adverse effects on the human population. Arsenic contaminated soils, sediments, and sludge are the major sources of arsenic contamination of the food chain, surface water, groundwater, and drinking water (WT Frankenberger & Arshad, 2002). Other potential sources of arsenic contamination are the chemicals used extensively in agriculture as pesticides, insecticides, defoliants, wood preservatives, and soil sterilants (AZCUE & NRIAGU, 1994). Currently available techniques for the remediation of As contaminated soil are very expensive and time–consuming, often hazardous to workers, and capable of producing secondary wastes (LOMBI, ZHAO, DUNHAM, & MCGRATH, 2000). Phytoextraction, the use of green plants to clean up contaminated soil, has attracted attention as an environmentally– friendly, low–input remediation technique. It uses plants that extract heavy metals from the soil and accumulate it in the harvestable, above ground biomass. Several comprehensive reviews on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The location was chosen so that PS2 could target the markets in both Eastern and Western Canada, and in the United States. The facility, which had a capacity of 20,000 tons per year, was permitted to treat a wide variety of pollutants. It was one of only three fixed facilities in Canada permitted to treat PCB and dioxinifuran–impacted soil. In late 2005, the facility became operational and started generating revenue. • 8. Population Environment And The Slums Of Mumbai INTRODUCTION: This research paper focuses on the population–environment dynamics in the slums of Mumbai. It mainly discusses the impact of the growing slum population on water quality in Mumbai. First, the research question and null hypotheses were stated based on the population, environment, social and cultural contexts. Readings from class and other peer reviewed articles were used to support the stated hypotheses and highlight the important aspects of the case study. Next, the important population characteristics were discussed and compared to other relevant places and a summary of the environmental and social context was also provided. Finally, the population–environment relationship was summarized for the chosen case site (Null hypotheses true or not) and implications of human actions on the natural world were discussed. RESEARCH QUESTION AND HYPOTHESES: Mumbai, India's financial hub is home to more than 20 million people. Historically, slum growth in Mumbai was a result of population growth far beyond the total carrying capacity. It resulted in overuse of traditional land, displacing a heavy chunk of the lower–middle class population to informal settlements. Villages like Dharavi, Byculla and Khar with small scale industries got converted into slums during this process. The rapid economic development in the 19th century also brought in a lot of migrant population from the rural areas into a city ill–equipped to deal with them [1]. This provides us ... • 13. Wall-E versus Feed on Society "Technological progress has merely provided us with more efficient means for going backwards" ("Brainy Quotes" 1). While this epitomizes modern time, it also represents M.T. Anderson's Feed and Pixar's Wall–E. Feed is a book about a dystopian society influenced by a device, called "feed", implanted in the brains of the citizens. The author describes a group of regular teenagers that venture to the moon for a spring break vacation of partying and going "in mal". The main character, Titus, falls for a girl named Violet who is not like the other stereotypical teens in this book. Violet received the feed when she was much older and she is homeschooled so her brain is more developed. Together, they go on outrageous adventures until a hacker at a dance club causes them to lose their feeds. Unfortunately for Violet, repairing her feed was practically impossible; meaning, Violet was slowly dying. Together, Titus and Violet question society, feed, and the way of life as they create their journey in the book, Feed. In Pixar's Wall–E, the world has been abandoned by all of humanity because of the over polluted atmosphere. However, one creature still exists on earth, a garbage– collecting robot named Wall–E. One day, a futuristic, well–developed robot arrives on earth inspecting the earth of any species of life. • 14. Personal Statement For Environmental Engineering Preserving the environment is one of the most critical issues we are facing today. How we act now will determine the fate of future generations. What really inspired me to consider environmental engineering as a profession was my Advanced Placement Environmental Science class in high school – it opened my eyes to global issues such as overpopulation, loss of biodiversity, inefficient energy sources, irresponsible waste disposal, etc. – and it motivated me to want to do something about it. What I want to ultimately accomplish in this field of work is facilitate the growth of the use of renewable energy sources, support responsible population reduction initiatives, and develop agricultural practices that ensure food and water security for every single person on the planet. The nature of the work varies depend on what one wants to specialize in. Many engineers work in office settings (with a great deal of operational record keeping, paperwork, and technical reports), but it often requires hands–on work and on–site oversight, especially when working in construction, ecosystem remediation, natural resource cultivation, or waste management. Oftentimes, engineers work over 40 hours a week in order to meet deadlines and finish all their tasks. On average, daily face–to–face, email, and telephone communication, and group collaboration with contractors, staff, and clients are necessary for careers offered to environmental engineers. At the same time, independent work is emphasized. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It can increase your comfort and save for you a lot of money by making your home more energy efficient. The first thing you can do is to turn off all the electric devices in your house wherever you don't need to use it. If you want it to be more easier for you, then installing a power stirp into your house in order to turn off all the electric devices that you do not use is the right way for you to save the electricity and make the world cleaner. Moreover, you can save a huge amount of water with electricity by hanging your clothes outside and let the sun and air dry your clothes for free. Liminal Responsive Architecture Professor Neil Leach DATE: Nov/03/2016 PAGES READ: 13–55 This section of the book first gives an introduction explaining the project by the author Philip Beesley, in collaboration with others, Hylozoic Ground. It is an installation that was presented at la biennale di Venezia 12th International Architecture Exhibition. In this installation, Canada offers a vision for a new generation of responsive architecture exploring the boundaries between environment, building, technology and human experience. Beesley defines the Hylozoic Ground as an "immersive, interactive sculpture environment organized as a textile matrix supporting responsive actions, dynamic material exchanges, and 'living technologies'". Later on, the chapter called Synthetic Geology by Geoff Manaugh, talks about future possible applications to Beesley's works like new soil deposits, new agricultural fields, and new landscapes, landfills remediation, archeological excavation and the possibility of colonizing distant planets. The last chapter of this section, Liberating the Infinite Architectural Substance by Neil Spiller, is about liberating the attributes of the material world, both man–made and natural, and that to Beesley the "prima materia" is the Earth. It also explains how the Hylozoic Ground make you experience a "microcosm of the city's macrocosm". The book start with the phrase: ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. Chemical And Biological Properties Of Soil Pollution It is always difficult to remove contaminations from soils because it contains many toxic chemicals such as (Pb, As, Cu, Cd, Cr, Ni, Hg and Zn). This chemicals mixed with the soil after burning of industrial waste, electronics waste or uses of agricultural technology. Then rain water makes it seep deep into the soil and cause soil pollution. This makes it so difficult and time consuming to remove, particularly when the affected area is on a large scale. Soil is made of by two components which are organic and inorganic solid constituent, water and mixture of different gasses present in various proportions. The mineral component in the soil varies, according to the parent material which the soils had been developed due to the issue of different type of climate conditions. Also, soil can also be classified into three different properties, physical, chemical and biological properties. Physical properties of soil are being controlled by soil water movement, such as texture and soil structures. The soil moisture have high tendency in controlling solute movement, salt solubility, chemical reaction and microbiological activities and most importantly the bioavailability of metal ions. In this situation, a successful phytoremediation program must be considered as an alternative in the specific site. In the past lots of researchers have tried different method in order to mitigate or reclaim the heavy metals polluted soils, but so far phytoremediation is the best of all because it is ... It is because of this, that British Columbia Ministry of Environment has categorized brownfields into 3 separate categories, representing the standard deviation of potential redevelopment brownfield projects. At either side of the deviation (+/– 15 – 20%) are your 'easy choices' for redevelopment. • 28. The Potentinal for Ozone in BTEX-Contaminated Sites Ozone is a highly–oxidative chemical known to be capable of degrading many types of organic contaminants, including both chemicals and organisms. It is known in the grain industry to be useful for disinfecting cereals without affecting quality of the cereal. This includes microbial inactivation, killing pests, degrading certain pesticides and fungicides, and mycotoxins (Tiwari et al. 2010). Ozone also has an important role in the treatment of wastewater for similar reasons. It is used in the treatment train at both the Alfred Merritt Smith and River Mountains treatment plants in Las Vegas (SNWA 2014). The ozonation processes in these plants kill off bacteria and microorganisms by bubbling ozone into the wastewater. As ozone dissipates within several minutes, no residue is left after treatment, though certain disinfection byproducts can potentially be formed depending on the constituents in the wastewater, and the placement of ozonation in the treatment train (Gerrity et al. 2010). Certain organic contaminants of interest, including ___, tend to have long half–lives and low water–solubility, which can make traditional and natural forms of remediation ineffective. The past decade has shown that ozone can be used in the remediation of contaminated soils, primarily by in– situ ozonation systems. As mentioned previously, ozone is an unstable chemical that has a half–life of around two minutes (Dey, Rosenwinkel, Wheeler 2002). In the process of oxidation, ozone reacts with ... In an age of social activism and political controversy, it is necessary to not only identify injustices in our society, but to also note their interconnectedness with each other. Even if some people might deny environmental concerns, addressing them is urgent during a time of rapid climate change and pollution. Environmental issues are often looked at through a scientific lense, but it is also essential to view them through a social lense in terms of equality associated with environmental issues. Environmental Justice calls for "fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people regardless of race, color, national origin, or income with respect to the development, implementation and enforcement of environmental laws, regulations and policies" (Mohai 2016: 2). However, treatment of specific groups in situations of environmental disasters of general poor living conditions proves that environmental inequality is incredibly prevalent in our society. Even though they are in some ways interconnected, race and class are the driving roots of environmental injustices. Race is a significant root of environmental justice because minority communities are subject to more harmful environmental issues and receive inadequate assistance. Ground water is dependable for supplying water in rural areas and also in some urban areas even though this source of water is most common in the rural areas. In some urban areas, the major source of water are rivers. According to Government of Malawi (2010), many river basins are under severe pressure resulting from deforestation, settlements, climate change, industry, mining, commerce and unsustainable agriculture. These have consequently impacted negatively on the water quality mainly due to sediment loads, industrial wastes, chemicals from agriculture and proliferation of aquatic vegetation. In urban areas, especially areas with high concentration of people, the major problem has been management of waste disposal. This has resulted in plastics that are just littered anyhow in the major urban areas including Blantyre ending up in rivers. Ground water though viewed as one of the safe sources of water, there are also a number of quality issues that are associated with it. According to Government of Malawi (2010), some of the issues include high concentrations of minerals such as fluoride, nitrates especially in agricultural areas, manganese and fecal matter in some areas. Our environment has been something that we neglect and carelessly use for our own personal economic growth because it is what has been done for many years.
