Treibstoff Theatertage Basel
COPRODUCTION
The production festival Treibstoff Theatertage Basel takes place every two
years and is a co-production between junges theater basel, ROXY Birsfelden
and Kaserne Basel. It provides young performance artists and theatre-mak-
ers with a platform to develop and present their latest productions in­Basel.
Audiences will be able to enjoy the following groups at Kaserne Basel:

A remarkable cooperation project celebrates the diversity of Swiss perfor-
mance art: Kaserne Basel presents works between performance and cho-
reography featuring: Dimitri de Perrot & Julian Sartorius, Marie-Caroline
Hominal, Foofwa d’Imobilité & Jonathan O’Hear, La Ribot, Massimo Furlan,
Simone Aughterlony & Hahn Rowe.

CULTURESCAPES GREECE / OPENING
CH PREMIERE
The biennial festival of contemporary culture is celebrating Greece this
autumn. And Kaserne Basel will host an array of theatre and dance pro-
ductions. The Greek director and choreographer Dimitris Papaiouannou
opens the festival with his latest production “The Great Tamer” – a perfor-
mance about the circle of life from cradle to grave.

In “EXTASE”, Moïra Gilliéron, Ariane Koch and Zino Wey question the ecsta-
sy that is all but lost in our modern-day society: a prophetic-musical experi-
ence that engages with contemporary philosophy where the conductor is
an ecstatic centre of research.

“Hyperion / Higher States, Part 2”
BASEL COPRODUCTION
Cooperation with one of the most important ensembles for new music, En-
semble Modern from Frankfurt, has led to a new choreographic version of
the epistolary novel by the German poet Friedrich Hölderlin, which trans-
ports this historic work into the modern age of disillusionment, rebellion
and escapism.

PINK MON€Y is queer and international. If you have enough of it, PINK

PINK MON€Y demands black-and-white thinking. PINK MON€Y abolishes
it again. PINK MON€Y hates labels but loves diversity.

“Das Böse. Eine Götterdämmerung”
COPRODUCTION
Evil is here, there and everywhere. It is not only in others but also in our-
selves. As the hunters of evil, three performers along with a guitarist, a
trombonist, a singer and a sound engineer turn the stage into an excava-
tion site and a haunted house.

“Private Song”

Alexandra Bachzetsis investigates Rebetiko, a style of urban Greek music
whose musical roots can be traced back to the Ottoman Empire. She crit-
ically examines the social and collective aspects of feelings and gender-­
specific behaviour, from the principles of Rebetiko to current mass culture.

“This Is My Last Dance”

Inspired by Samuel Beckett’s essay “La Fin” and his one-act play “End-
game”, Tabea Martin has developed a duet that explores how we handle
our own demise. How do our bodies cope with the final stages of life? How
do we conquer fear and desperation?

International perspectives of culture, art and society: discussions and a
multi-disciplinary programme that for three days brings together art-

Schupp and Mats Staub.

“WORK”
COPRODUCTION
An agency representing choreographers, lots of telephones and some in-
ter-departmental problems cause a conflict of responsibility in Phil Haye’s
latest piece. “WORK” is a performative investigation of the contemporary
working culture.

PERFORMANCEMARATHON
Taking a look back at the 2009, 2011 and 2012 editions of ZAP!, there is a
new and final edition of the performance marathon with artistic works
between theatre, performance, visual art and choreography. Featuring:
Trajal Harrell (US), Gisèle Vienne (FR), Miet Warlop (BE), Berlin (BE), Doris
Uhlich (AT) plus many more.

Tanzfest is all about dancing: in theatres, art centres and public spaces. Be
it folk dancing, hip-hop or contemporary dance: using the array of options
available, everyone can put together their own programme, discover the
work of the artists or take a spin around the dancefloor themselves!

“Jäger & Sammler”
DANCE EDUCATION PROJECT
Three school groups of all ages will spend six months delving deeper into
contemporary dance while looking at consumption. They will visit busi-
ness centres, analyse advertising techniques and learn to understand their
own buying behaviour. They will additionally develop dance material and
perform it as a site-specific project.

“Die Wiederentdeckung der Granteloper”

FUX is dedicating itself to protests and complaints. They whinge and moan
as much as they can, they look forward to the reactions and manage to use
this to create the first ever real “grouch opera”.

She She Pop DE
“Oratorium”
COPRODUCTION / CH PREMIERE
Inspired by Brecht’s theory of didactic play, She She Pop develop rules for an
evening of dialogical theatre: together with the choir of the local delegates
and their respective audience, they will discuss property and examine their
own relationship to ownership, the distribution of goods and its related
problems.

“Weltgeschichtliche Betrachtungen oder this
is the end of the world as we know it”

Five performers transfer current online debates from the screen to the
stage, bombard the audience – and themselves – with these facts while
delving deeper into human history with the help of the historian Jacob
Burckhardt.

GUEST PERFORMANCE
With “Geschichte des Theaters” (History of Theatre), the director and
­author Milo Rau takes a personal journey through the history of the oldest
art form and comes round to the basic problem of his artistic work: the
question of how to present violence and traumatic events on stage.

The transmedial experiment of the Digitalbühne Zürich focuses on the
marionette play “The Death of Tintagiles” by Maurice Maeterlinck as a
bitter­sweet reactionary parable to civilised evil. Featuring androids, Ava-
tars, VR experiences and puppets, Digitalbühne Zürich (previously 400asa)
unveils the stage of the future.

“Nachlass”
GUEST PERFORMANCE
After “Situation Rooms”, Rimini Protokoll is returning to Basel with an-
other large-scale work. “Nachlass” (Inheritance) looks at what legacy and
inheritance mean today. The audience goes on a journey through eight
immersive room installations and is accompanied by voices, objects and
images to the outer limits of their own existence.

The Migros Culture Percentage dance festival Steps is the largest interna-
tional biennial for contemporary dance in Switzerland. To mark its 30th
