• It usually isn’t any more complicated than that.
It’s unfortunate for her – but it can be great
news for you!
– Why was she holding out for someone in her
faith and is she willing to marry others outside
her faith?
• It’s easier to date in your faith. Religion is a complicated
and powerful thing. Explaining can be difficult &
sensitive.
• Yes. She’s willing to date and marry outside her faith but
there are some things you need to know and be
comfortable with first.

basics of the LDS faith (Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) so
you can understand her thinking,
viewpoint and lens through which she
sees the world. These tenants
underpin her decisions and actions:

– The LDS religion is 100% Christian. Jesus
Christ is the center of their faith.
– In their denomination, the gospel of
Jesus Christ has been restored today; i.e.,
it’s the same organization of Christ from
the ancient days with timeless principles
and prophets and apostles.
– Christ is at the head of their church
today leading by inspiration and
revelation through their latter-day
prophets and apostles.

• They believe this life is a test. You’re tested to see if you will
do all things that God has commanded you to do.
• How obedient you are to God’s laws in your earthly test
determines what type of heaven you get.
• There are three types of heaven / degrees of glory.
– Celestial: reserved strictly for those who are obedient to God’s
laws. The righteous. Those who accept Christ and continuously
repent and improve throughout their earthly life.
– Terrestrial: Honorable people who didn’t keep God’s
commandments on earth or accept Christ until after death.
– Telestial: The wicked. Liars, adulterers, the sexually
promiscuous who don’t use the procreation power the way
God designed for it to be used (in committed marriage
relationships), those who don’t keep the commandments,
those who don’t accept Christ.
• There is also a place without any degree of glory: perdition
or outer darkness. This is where you go if you know Christ
fully and then reject him fully.

• Within the Celestial kingdom, there are three degrees of
glory.
• God & Christ live in the top tier of that kingdom.
• As God is, man may become. In other words, we are
children of God and, just like our kids can become
adults, we can become like him. However, in order to get
to the highest degree of glory within the Celestial
kingdom, you have to qualify with the following:
1. Be baptized by immersion by one holding proper
Priesthood authority. For those who don’t have that
blessing in this life, proxy accommodations will be made
for them so all people can receive that blessing.
2. Be strictly obedient to God’s laws. Repent if you
temporarily go astray. Endure to the end of your life in
righteousness.
3. Eventually be married by a person holding the proper
authority. The only place on earth where marriages take
place by men who have the restored Priesthood power
from God are in LDS temples. For the righteous who
don’t have that blessing in this life, accommodations will
be made for them to receive that blessing. 6

• If your LDS lady has gone through the
temple, an exercise of faith and Celestial-
Kingdom intent and righteousness on her
part, she is likely wearing garments.
– What are garments: When Adam and Eve
were in the garden of Eden, God gave
them “garments” to “cover their
nakedness”.
– Today’s temple garments symbolize the
same thing for LDS men and women. They
are religious, thin, white t-shirts and
shorts that members wear underneath
their clothing as underwear to be modest
/ cover their nakedness, and remind them
of their covenants to be righteous people
here on earth.
– Only people who have gone to the temple
wear them.
– Members wear them night and day, with
a few natural exceptions: sex with their
spouse, when they’re wearing their
bathing suits, when they’re exercising,
etc.

8. Why This Matters: Dating Dos & Don’ts
• From what you’ve read so far, you’ve now learned the following
about LDS women:
1. They’re not going to have sex with you outside of marriage. If you’re
looking for a hookup or a live-in girlfriend, you may want to look
elsewhere.
2. If you’re looking for a good woman to marry, you’ve come to a great
place. As a general rule, you’ll find them:
• Marriage oriented.
• Clean sexually (no STDs).
• Faithful (no cheating or related heartbreak).
• Committed to working through marital problems (no divorce or alimony.
Unless you’re abusive and deserve it.)
• Law-abiding: no stealing, coveting, murder, lying or other societal ills.
• Continuously improving themselves; looking to be kinder, gentler, more
loving, better people every day.
• Family oriented: families married in the temple can be together forever, not
just until “death do you part”. Results in strong commitments and marriages.
• Willing to have children if both parties want it.

3. Other things important to know:
– They live a clean lifestyle free of addictive substances: no street drugs,
alcohol, tea, or coffee.
– On a first date, she knows all this stuff about herself but has NO idea where
you are on any of these things. She’s going to feel ill at ease about the
following:
• How do you feel about waiting until marriage for sex?
• How do you feel about the fact that she’s not going to join you when you drink beer or
wine – ever?
• Garments are part of her faith. Are you tolerant enough religiously to not criticize her
for wearing them – ever?
• She’s going to want to go to church on Sundays. Can you let her go w/o complaining or
being territorial?
4. Lastly, all religions have unique aspects to them. This is their “unique.”
Likewise, all women are unique. This is part of their “unique”.
5. If you can accept these things about her, great! You’ve likely found
yourself a wonderful woman. I hope you marry & live happily ever after.
