Conventions displayed through Mise en Scene in my crime genre teaser trailer
1. Conventions are displayed through Mise en Scene elements in my trailer. Props and costumes were very
important as without these things, it would be very difficult for people to recognise the genre of my
teaser trailer. The props I used in my trailer were:
These were the main props I used.
Conventionally, you’d find similar
props in a genre similar to what I have
aimed for. Guns, drugs and money are
some of the main props featured in a
crime genre and I have made sure to
Headphones include these in my teaser trailer.
Fake drugs Real money Pen & Paper
I included headphones, a CD and a pen
and paper to show that music will be
involved in the film trailer and in some
scenes, I am ‘reciting’ some lyrics or
am in a studio being recorded.
I have also added in some extras such
CD & case Fake money Glass bottle Flour as a glass bottle to show that there
will be alcohol involved along with
fake money that I created myself that
is made to look real. I printed images
of £50 notes and cut out a stash of
newspaper roughly the same size. I
then put one piece of the £50 note on
one side, and another on the other
side then put a rubber band around
Microphone Cigarette Toy gun Credit card the stack.

3. The majority of the locations I recorded in were outside. I did this because I didn’t want the audience to
feel as though the trailer would be showing a movie that happens in the same place all the time. I used a
variety of locations; from alleyways to open roads and even filmed in one or two rooms. The lighting of
my locations was pretty good, using a variety of dark and light places which emphasised scenes of
violence and passivity.
This background is used in the second shot of
the trailer. It contrasts the first shot which is
very dark and violent. This shows that there
are ‘better days’ as it is bright and in a park
which usually suggests childhood and
happiness. The fact that I’m smiling and
rapping to myself (not to mention with a bag
walking to school) makes the atmosphere
softer and nicer.
The setting here reflects the behaviour that
an actor makes while he’s walking down this
road. The location is quite dark and
sophisticated. I captured the back of the van
to hint that something suspicious is going to
happen which is; someone creeping out
from in front of the van behind the
character.
