2. What happened On January 12, 2010, Canada has been helping Haiti during last year’s devastating M7.0 earthquake, which killed, injured and displaced millions of people around Port Au Prince. Tons of homes were destroyed (which didn’t have good foundations) and has also devasted Canadians as well.
3. What Canada has done in the short-term They have sent out 49 airplane flights to return 4,620 Canadians citizens and permanent residents back to Canada. Also they have reunited 203 Haitian Children to their families in Canada. 56 expert personnel from the following organizations: DFAIT, CIDA, CIC, CBSA, CSC and the RCMP helped pick people up from the rubble, took care of their health, and made sure they were all safe and healthy. 19 Canadian humanitarian technical experts went to help other trusted humanitarian agencies, including 10 Canadian medical staff to help with the Canadian-Norwegian Red Cross Field Hospital supported by CIDA. *Roll over to see long form of the abbreviations
