Work is defined as any activity involving mental or physical effort to achieve a result. There are four main types of work: primary work involves natural resources like farming and mining; secondary work is manufacturing finished goods; tertiary work provides services in areas like entertainment, banking, and education; and quaternary work relates to information and communication technology or research and development. More economically developed countries tend to have more jobs in tertiary and quaternary work, while less economically developed countries rely more on primary and secondary work.
