2. The title of the newspaper on both examples is placed in the same place. This will
be the default layout, or place for this feature on the front of the newspaper.
The date and the price of the newspaper are in the same place on both examples,
again this will be the default layout or place for both features

Side stories or insight as to what is in the newspaper is placed alongside the main
news story in a column on these particular examples of the print.
The headliner of both news papers is centre of the front page. Both examples
include a picture related to the main news story, the back up a small text box
giving a brief description of what the story is about. This text will most likely
contain a hook to grab the readers attention and draw them in to read more. As
well as this, both of the stories headlines include a hint that the story is ‘bad
news’. One contains the word ‘cancer’ and the other contains the words ‘fury and
prison’. This is own purposely done as according to Galtung and Ruge, bad news
is more eye-catching and exciting than ‘good news’.
Both examples I have used, have an advertisement for a local company or local
deal that a reader can participate in.
The North West Evening Mail has it’s own website so it makes it visible on the
front page
This exercise has given me a very good idea
of what a stereotypical local newspaper
layout consists of and looks like. I will take
in to account all of this when designing my
layout.
