2. School/Classroom
• A school or classroom can be an effective setting in a romantic comedy, especially
a teen one, due to the nature of the environment. The setting can be tense,
fun, upsetting and possibly full of love.
• The different personalities you can get in a school can define the mood of the
scene/narrative.
For example, in Mean Girls, the fight that breaks out between all of the girls in the
school halls is in a sense comedic with all of the contrasting personalities fighting
each other. This was enabled due to the setting being in a school.
3. Bedroom
• The setting of a bedroom is an ideal way to create some effective Rom
Com scenes.
• The setting can outline an awkward sexual encounter if possibly in an older
mature romantic comedy, or have a group of friends with one of the group
obsessively crying over some gossip that may not be seen as serious to the
audience creating a comedic effect.
4. Park
• A park is a setting that can be used to outline any narrative in any way you
would like from a picnic with the person you love the most or awkward
encounters with the people you really do not want to meet.
• This is a great setting for Rom Com scenes.
5. Cinema
• A cinema can allow a great date scene for a romantic comedy either the
date going really well or really wrong.
• This is effective as most people would outline a cinema as a popular place
to go on a first date or a date when becoming serious.
It’s a great narrative device.
