2. • Transfer new science into practice
faster
• Deliver science and engineering to
improve coastal project life cycle
systems performance and cost
• Develop business collaboratively
• Bring together capabilities,
resources, and funding from
multiple partners for an overall
greater value than could be
achieved separately
• Link academics to practice
• Student learning experiences
• Cultivate recruiting opportunities

3. • Build a better Texas
Coast
• Better prioritize R&D
to accomplish that
goal
• Focus innovation
• Hire and build better
engineers
• Lead Coastal

5. Held workshops in AUG and NOV 2016 and April 2017
CSEC Workshop Series
Objectives:
• Become familiar with each
others’ organizations and their
future directions
• Identify crossover working
relationships in coastal
science and engineering
• Develop a partnering value
proposition for achieving
mutually held objectives
• Identify action items for joint
organization follow up with
future event planning
Apr 2017 Accomplishments:
• Bio-Physical Modeling
workshop
• Identified new partnering
opportunities
• Followed up on earlier
opportunities
• Toured ERDC labs
• TAMU OCEN courses via
ERDC Institute
• EWN Curriculum
• CSEC Business
• PgMP, CRADA, Steering
Committee, etc
Next meeting in Galveston 5-6 Oct 2017

Discuss formal recognition of csec here
Maybe the focus would be on evolving fundamental coastal engineering science regarding the comment of Slide 2 above, with a combination of field prototype, laboratory scale, and desktop modeling and simulation. Maybe Jens could help with focusing the topic, offering a student who is ready, establishing a timeline, and estimating the funding requirement for the industry investment proposal.
