WHAT IS PARABLE?
• The term generally refers to ‘Parables of Jesus’. But, its
referencing can be found in all spiritual texts.
• A short story designed to allegorically teach some religious
principle, moral lesson or general truth.
• It includes real life characters and literal references to
which anyone can relate.
WHAT IS LEADERSHIP?
• According to the idea of transformational leadership , an effective
leader is a person who does the following:
i. Creates an inspiring vision of the future.
ii. Motivates and inspires people to engage with that vision.
iii. Manages delivery of the vision.
iv. Coaches and builds a team, so that it is more effective at achieving
the vision.
This definition of leadership does not tell about what are the attributes
that an effective and efficient leader must posses.
WHAT IS PARABLE OF LEADERSHIP?
• Leadership can not be defined in just words. It has to be experienced.
• The old stories from the temples of Kyung Nam, Korea provide us with lessons
that came from oriental masters who taught the wisdom of life through
parables.
• These parables provide us with the insights to capture the unseen space of
leadership.
i. The ability to hear what is left unspoken.
ii. Humility
iii. Commitment
iv. The value of looking at reality from many vantage points
v. The ability to create an organization that draws out the unique strengths of
THE SOUND OF THE FOREST
INSIGHTS GAINED
• A good leader should possess the ability to “Hear what goes unsaid”.
• A leader should have the capability to sense what’s going wrong in
his/her organization and respond positively.
• A leader should be able to gain the trust and confidence of his people.
• The excellency of a great leader surfaces only when he/she surpasses
superficial words and understands the true feelings and desires of the
people.
FIRE AND WATER
INSIGHTS GAINED
• A leader should be calm, composed and compassionate.
• He should be humble and have the ability to recognize the inner
strength of his people.
• He should have easy approachability, so people don’t hesitate to reach
out to him.
THE LESSON OF THE BABBLING BROOK
INSIGHTS GAINED
• A leader should know where his strengths and weaknesses lie.
• He should be supportive and participative in his approach rather than
being autocratic or directive.
• He should not behave like a boss rather work alongside his people and
boost their confidence.
THE WISDOM OF THE MOUNTAIN
INSIGHTS GAINED
• A leader should possess the ability to view the situation from various
point of views and not only his own.
• A leader should have an open mind towards improvement, change and
development & should be willing to welcome it.
THE WHEEL AND THE LIGHT
INSIGHTS GAINED
• A single man can not excel in all aspects. It is necessary to get help
from others who excel in those fields.
• Analysing the inner potential and appointing the task befitting it
yields maximum profitable output.
• A leader should give space and power to his people to let them exercise
their freedom and not have interpersonal conflicts among themselves.
• Only when a leader have a good and understandable bond with his
people will he be able to rise above all odds.
CONCLUSION
A leader to be great and successful has to have the following qualities:
• He should be able to hear the unheard and unsaid.
• Should be calm, composed and compassionate.
• Should be easily approachable.
• He should be supportive rather than being directive.
• He should be welcoming any change which can bring about positivity
and development in the organization.
• He should be able to identify the strengths of people and assign task
best befitting it to get the maximum output.
