a question about the recent scholagladiatoria pilum video

1. Did the scutum rotate when
hit by a pilum??
A comment about a video filmed by Scholagladiatoria

2. The tester has the shield mounted stable to
the ground and a stand.

3. When the pilum impacts, the shield remains fixed
in position making it very easy for the pilum to
penetrate.

4. The soldier only holds the shield in the center,
and out away from the body.

5. Therefore when the pilum impacts, the shield
should rotate.

6. If the hole does not rotate, then the pilum can
travel through the shield with no resistance,
however, if the hole DOES rotate, then the sides of
the hole will "pinch" the shield, creating friction
against the inertia of the pilum.

7. This may stop the pilum from penetrating
properly, or at least slow the pilum enough to
prevent it from penetrating the armor of the
soldier

8. If this does result in enough friction to stop the
pilum, however, a question that I have is,, might
this rotation result in a bent pilum??
