EGG Cup Electromancy Competition
1. The Electromancy Galvan Games (EGG) is a big event. The four houses – Teslador, Hertzclaw, Ohmpuff and Gaussein – compete for the EGG cup. There are three big events : 3 The TWITCH game: The houses compete to make objects move using static electricity – this uses really old-fashioned electromancy. The JUICE challenge: Once again they compete to see who can get the most wind from a fan powered by a fruit battery. MAGIC LIGHT: Electromancers tell a story of how they can make light from a unicorn’s hair. They compete to see who can make the best steady light. 3. We will investigate static electricity. Here are four simple tests. You can create a static charge by rubbing one material on another. See details on Student Sheet 1. 5. There are weird machines that produce sparks. Can you suggest how they might work? Your teacher will demonstrate the machine, or show you a video. Discuss what you see, and make an informed guess about why it is happening. It is all to do with particles and static electricity. Watch the videos of ‘Braniac static spark’ and ‘Tesla’s cage of death’. Explain what is happening. 9 Engage Explore Explain Elaborate Extend Evaluate Elicit
