Ratio
As this case is an appeal decision, the ratio/rationes can come only from those legal issues that were in dispute[4]. The main legal principle the High
Court applied in deciding this case is the common law concept of 'control' in distinguishing an employee from an individual contractor.
Decision
The High Court used a holistic approach and ruled in favour of Hollis. In a majority judgment the High Court held that "viewed as a practical matter,
the bicycle couriers were not running their own business or enterprise, nor did they have independence in the conduct of their operations" hence could

Critical Analysis
The critical analysis focuses on the definitions of employee and independent contractor and the common law concept of 'control' applied to the
post–industrial era in determining whether an employer is vicariously liable.

Turning Points for Children (TPFC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit social service agency that services children and families throughout the city of

Social conflicts– conflicts in which the parties are individuals or an aggregate of individuals– are unavoidable instances of life. What causes social
conflicts, however, remains a subject of contention. Scholars across various disciplines have come–up–with different theories to explain the causes of
social conflicts. Generally, each theory attempts to look at the causes from a particular perspective or discipline such as economics, sociology,
psychology, political science or socio–biology. Nonetheless, conflicts, as complex social phenomena, defy single explanation. They are aggregate
results of myriad sets of causes, which transcend beyond the comprehension of one or more theories or perspectives. It is, however, conceded that
each theory can help explain a cause or a combination of causes that would contribute towards a comprehensive understanding of social conflicts. This
reflection paper aims to critically examine theories on causes of social conflict discussed under James Schellenberg's book entitled Conflict
Resolution: Theory, Research, Practice. These are: individual characteristics theories (Chapter 3), social process theories (Chapter 4) and social

a result of the globalization of the fashion industry. Perhaps the most obvious occurrence of female body harm in the fashion industry is a result of
fashion modeling. An up–close look into the modeling industry as a microcosm of the fashion industry reveals the severe objectification and
commodification of fashion models for the sake of consumption.
The modeling industry has created a culture of exclusion across genders and races. Author Ashley Mears (2010) critically analyses the fashion
industry, and how it influences production of culture and beauty ideals around the world. The modeling world is extremely female dominated, and the
women who participate are continually commodified as they are used as a means to "promote and disseminate ideas of how women should look," (p.
