Traceability Platforms
• What is traceability platforms?
  – Platforms to share the distribution information of
    products from the production process through to
    delivery to end consumers using of RFID tags.
• What are good points of traceability
  platforms?
  – Improve product quality
  – reduce CO2 emissions.
  – visualize where a product are for consumers
  and so on.
Actual Example
Point of Sales (POS)
A system that records merchandise sale information as merchandise is sold in
a retail store.

Food Manufacturing Industry Traceability

 The system is used in Yamato Transport Co., Ltd. The system links up with
 existing mission-critical systems to support factories from the receipt of raw
 materials, manufacturing and product inspections to shipment


Timber Distribution Traceability System
 The system developed by Company Ⅰ and The University of Tokyo utilizes
 RFID tags in order to track and share information from throughout the
 complex distribution chain of the forestry industry.
Botllenecks
• A large cost
   – A single RFID tag is rather inexpensive, but RFID tag
     solutions resulting inlarge burden for a business.
   – Another reason behind the high cost is that standards have
     yet to be unified.
• Privacy
   – Consumers are trackable by using RFID tags equipped
     items they bought.
