 Metal, rock.. grunge, rebellion and youth.

3. What does this image represent to you
in terms of music? (Genre/style)
 This information gives me reassurance that the images I’m using connote a Rock/Metal genre
within my magazine. This means I do not need to make adjustments in the way I present this
social class.
 The information I gathered from this question however does not allow me to understand
whether or not I’m presenting this social class, and genre, in a positive or negative way. When
interviewing a Focus group of people from the target audience I will ensure I ask them what
‘light’ they think I have presented the Rock class/genre in.

4. Does this layout suit the genre of a rock
magazine?
 I think so due to its ‘chaoticness’, I think your ‘contents’ title
should stand out more though, maybe make it a little bigger?
 I like the position of article photos 10 and 23, I think they make
the layout more unique and also I like the black used behind your
sub headings, it connotes darkness which goes well with a metal
magazine/rock magazine feel.
 I think the colours that have been used suit the genre.
 The busyness of it kind of relates to the genre I think as a more
peaceful layout wouldn’t really be appropriate to what you are
trying to represent
 Yeah, I think the colours you’ve used are really representative of
rock culture, and I agree that the chaos links to your theme
 The images which are slightly rotated go against conventions,
which mimics the genre’s reputation to push boundaries. Whilst
the rest of the layout creates clear margins which offer lots of
room for content which is typical of larger rock-genre magazines.
 I think maybe have only 1 image rotated, the symmetry does not
really represent rock genre.

5. Does this layout suit the genre of a
rock magazine?
 The angular positioning of article photos 10 and 23 have been said to make the layout more
unique. This however has symmetry which doesn’t follow the way Rock itself breaks
conventions, and the norm. When adjusting my contents page I will ensure I change the
positioning of just one these photos, so they’re not the same meaning they break the norm
 The colours that have used were said to suit the genre. From hearing responses like this I then
know to carry these qualities throughout my magazine.

6. Please name the font which best suits a
Rock music magazine:
 I like ‘second world’, but I also think that ‘a dripping marker’
connotes a metal feel to it...
 None of these, try ‘Charlemagne std’ or ‘chiller’.
 ‘A Dripping Marker’.
 None of these, look at ‘Rockwell extra bold’.
 ‘Mess in my head’.
 I’d say ‘Scratched letters’, the others appear urban rather than
‘grungy’.
 ‘URBAN JUNGLE’ is a good representation of the rock genre.

7. Please name the font which best suits
a Rock music magazine:
 Generally people liked one or two of the fonts I had selected as potentials, a few people however
suggested that I should look further into other Fonts.
 I may review the list of font’s I’ve chosen to decide from, looking more at fonts such as
‘Charlemagne std’, ‘chiller’ or ‘Rockwell extra bold’ on Dafont.com.
