What Makes a Game and Its Role in Society
- 1. What is a Game ?
Google has told me that a game is a competitive platform that a person can interact with and
make rewarding choices, or sometimes the opposite.
What makes something a game is it’s ability to challenge the people involved and allows them to
make decisions, or moves in order to complete the set of challenges. Most games have a
reward, this reward can sometimes be good, or mediocre, it all depends on how well you
accomplished your challenges. This could be measured in speed, strategy, difficulty or the
amount of items you collect.
One other thing, games are forms of amusement. It’s a trait that humans share with other
mammals like dolphins. I watched a documentary where they showed Dolphins blowing rings
underwater as targets, before launching themselves through rings.
Games are simple ways for us as humans, to fill time, or spend time with family and friends at
home (board games). OTher times it’s very cool to kill fighting robots on Xbox/PS4, or even
reach virtual reality, as our generation gets closer to perfecting 3D animation, games are seen
as a new way of escape from the real world.
Some people see games as an art form, fused by an incredible collaborative company like
Naughty Dog. There are people that spend almost every hour of their day creating textured
meshes for walls in a video game. This game has a total of three hundred people working hard,
each making a change to it’s frame, all because of entertainment. People now pay a lot more
money for video games than they used to, as the world develops, so does the game.
