2. Introduction
Tim Schmidt is a veteran health care executive with
experience as a CEO improving hospital operations
and achieving positive bottom lines. Recently, Tim
Schmidt served as the interim CEO at Sparks Health
System in Arkansas, where he focused on
organizational efficiencies. Also an active community
member, Mr. Schmidt has previously served the
United Way of Laredo.
The United Way is a charitable organization founded
in 1887 that works to create solutions that improve
quality of life for all people. Today, the organization
operates globally in over 40 countries and 1,000
local communities.
3. United Way
The United Way maintains a focus on three key
areas to effect positive change: education, income,
and health.
The United Way’s focus on health entails
community-based initiatives that aim to improve
access to nutritious food, promote physical activity
and exercise, and enhance the healthcare system.
One example of this is the Play60 program, a
partnership with the National Football League to
promote at least 60 minutes of daily physical activity
for children. These programs are rooted in the belief
that good health--of which fitness is a key
component--benefits the community and improves
success rates in all areas of daily life.
