The UK Recovery Walk Charity central messageis that permanent recovery
fromalcohol and other drug-related problems are not only possiblebut a
reality in the lives of hundreds of thousands of individuals, families and
communities.
The UK Recovery Walk Charity has a focus on creating pro-recovery community
attitudes & policies along with advocating for the expansion of the range &
quality of local recovery supportservices

The UK Recovery Walk Charity aims to:
Make Recovery visible.
Demonstrate that Recovery is a Reality and is contagious.
Demonstrate that there are many pathways to Recovery.
Celebrate the achievements of individuals, families and communities in recovery and offer
hope and support to those that are recovering.
Demonstrate that people in Recovery are assets within their communities and have a
valuable role to play in the transformation of communities.
Honour and promote those individuals, groups and organisations that support people,
families and communities in defining and achieving Recovery.
Support individuals, families and communities that are still struggling to achieve their vision
of Recovery.
Challenge stigma and discrimination and advocate equality.
Depict addiction as a problem for which there are viable and varied recovery solutions
Providing living role models that illustrate the diversity of those recovery solutions
Countering attempts to dehumanise, objectify and demonise those with alcohol and other
drug (AOD) problems
Individuals, groups and organisations that support recovery, in all its diversity, will have
their efforts recognised and celebrated.
Stigma and discrimination challenged and equality issues advocated for.
The sharing of Recovery stories from people in long-term recovery, their families and friends
will give hope to others and demonstrate the power and reality of Recovery.

Outcomes of The UK Recovery Walk Charity:
Removed community barriers to recovery for those still experiencing AOD problems and to
improve the quality of life of those recovering from AOD problems.
Recovery is visible in all communities.
Communities will be educated as to the reality of Recovery and its contagious qualities.
Communities will have a better understanding of the many pathways to Recovery.
Those in Recovery will have their achievements recognised and a message of hope and
optimism will be conveyed to those that are still suffering.
New relationships and friendships formed and Recovery Networks strengthened and
sustained.
Enhanced variety, availability and quality of local/regional treatment and recovery support
services
Removal of environmental barriers to recovery, including the promotion of laws and social
policies that reduce AOD problems and support recovery for those experiencing AOD
problems
Transformed existing treatment systems into “recovery-oriented systems of care”
Supported recovery organisations across the country by the use of accurate and positive
language.
Generated many smaller movements to carry the message of hope for recovery to the very
heart of the culture and into the realms of media, government, law, medicine, business,
education, religion, and entertainment.
Conveyed this movement message as a call to mutual aid, social communion, and political
advocacy groups.
