Radio frequency identification (RFID) technology is used to electronically identify, track, and store
information on a tag. Its main components are a tag, reader, and a database. It is used by all levels of
government in various well–known areas, such as logistics support for the military and highway
tolls. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the use of this technology by the United States Federal
government and some of its major agencies, including the Department of Homeland Security, the
Department of Defense, the Department of State, and Social Security Administration. There are
more institutions within the Federal government that already use or are strongly considering
implementing RFID technology, but have not yet done so for a number of reasons, such as lack of
funding, privacy or security concerns. The main benefits and threats of this technology will be
discussed for the institutions listed.

What is the purpose of government? The U.S. government has grown to provide much more than
was originally included in the constitution. Some may argue that large government is helpful,
because a large government provides services for its citizens through many different programs.
While this may be, some of these programs have only created bigger problems. Prohibition is a great
illustration of this, while the consumption of alcohol was lowered as a result, there was a large
increase in crime. In the book The Rise and Fall of Prohibition, results from a study were published,

Have you ever wondered where a doctor's method came from? Or so much to even, think who came
up with the original idea? America has an interesting medical history, or as I like to call them
experiments. Some of those experiments were a positive asset to the history, but others were
horrifying. One of those horrifying events would be Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment. James H. Jones,
the author of "Bad Blood: The Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment", covered a book on the historical
event. The study was for how the African American male is affected by untreated syphilis. But
through the evolvement of the experiment, it became about the neurological aspect. It also depicts
the American Government for its untrustworthiness in the health care world.
The experiment first began in 1932, in a small county within the Macon County of Alabama area. In
this are rate of syphilis was up by 35%. Interestingly, the setting of the study was conducted at the
Tuskegee Institute, which we know now to be Tuskegee University. The study conducted of 399
men, 201 out of the 399 were used as the control group. The control group contained of those who
actually didn't have the diseases. The study also targeted those who were poor and illiterate. A lot of
those patients had the slightest clue to which they were being tested for, only being told they had

During the Great Depression of the early 1930s a form of Social Security was created but the federal
government was not involved in the support of elderly people and their families, those concerns
were considered to be handled locally or by the state. According to the America's Historical
Documents (n.d.), that changed on August 15, 1935 when president Roosevelt signed the Social

Along with being approved for these benefits Medicaid benefits are also automatically approved for
the claimants. Even with the Affordable Care Act (ACA) being in place with the potential/ goal of
lowering health care cost the Social Security Administration is adding significantly to the health care
