Factors Of Conflict In Thailand
1.0 INTRODUCTION Thailand is a country in Southeast Asia that is bordered on the east Laosdan Cambodia, Malaysia and the Gulf of Thailand in
southern and the Andaman Sea in the west. Southern Thailand consists of 14 counties and includes the Narathiwat, Pattani and Yala. The majority of
the population in Southern Thailand consists of residents who are Malays and Muslims, but the whole country was ruled by the government of Thailand
which is a Buddhist.
Thailand also a country that is familiar with the concept of conflict. In the 1960 until early 1980, the kingdom of Thailand has been in conflict and
fight with the communist rebels. Muslim separatists move active in Southern Thailand area from 1940 year until late 1980 year. However, in passing

The Military Force of Thailand
As far as we are concerned, unlike other Asian countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia and others, Thailand military forces portrayed a significant
concern pertaining to internal turbulence within Thailand. (Simon, 2000, p. 13) This is because, for several decades, since communist aggression and
until todays, internal security has become the main core focus of Thailand military forces in the aspects of defence and security of Thailand (Taylor,
2013, p. 12); compared to other aspects such as external defence. Before discussing or deliberating the roles of Thailand military forces in internal
security, it is better for us to understand the definition of internal security because it might raise confusion as it both aspects are associated closely with
the national interest of a country. As coined by the Democratic Republic of Timor–Leste National Parliament (2003), internal security is defined as an
activity or program advanced by the State (Government) with the aims to guarantee order, security and public peacefulness, to safeguards people and
goods, to prevent law–breaking and contribute to guarantee the normal functioning of the democratic institutions. Through this clear definition, it is
clear that external security and internal security are different with each other. In Thailand, the military undertook a crucial role of internal security
pertaining to the Burmese refugees and insurgency in the southernmost of Thailand insurgency by the Malay–Muslim insurgent. (Taylor,

The Canadian Banking System
As compared to the US banking system, Canada has fewer banks; therefore, its financial system is more concentrated. Although highly concentrated,
Canadian banks are generally more diversified, with expansion in wealth management, insurance, deposit and loans, and brokerage services. Further,
the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFT) was responsible to the Minister of Finance for the supervision of banks and federally
regulated non–bank financial institution. With this in mind, the Canadian banking system was one of the most stable in the world with only two
bank failure since 1923. From 1987 to 1992, several revisions were made to the Canada's Bank Act, which required a bank to maintain adequate
capital as well as adequate and appropriate forms of liquidity. The revisions helped decrease the barriers between the four pillars of Canada's financial
services industry: commercial banking, investment banking, trust, and insurance. More importantly, this changes led to the expansion of new
services of major Canadian banks such as insurance, money management, retail brokerage, trust, and by 1980, Canada allowed foreign banks to
enter its market. The Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) is the largest bank in Canada with over 16 million clients and 78,000 employees worldwide. The
company headquarters is located in Ontario, Canada, and it was founded in 1864. In 1997, the RBC ranked the sixth largest bank of North America
with assets of $245 billion. The RBC,

Regional variations tend to show a mutual relationship to neighbouring. Northern Thai cuisine shares dishes with northern Laos, Shan State in Burma,

Cambodia, Congo, And Jamaica
Case Study: Cambodia, Congo, and Jamaica
Cambodia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Jamaica are countries that gained independence from European powers after World War II.
Though located in different regions of the world, and colonized by different European powers, these countries experienced social unrest and economic
challenges that remain. Key to understanding these countries is understanding their histories and struggles, which continue to have significant impact
on conditions within these countries today.
Cambodia
Cambodia's history contrasts a glorious past with recent tragedy. Located in Southeast Asia between Thailand and Vietnam, Cambodia's history of
conflict with its neighbors and European colonialism has led to distrust and nationalism. Fear of foreign occupation or being partitioned by its
neighbors lingers in the Cambodian national psychology. Once part of French Indochina, Cambodian gained independence in 1953 when King
Sihanouk convinced France that only complete independence would undercut the appeal of communism in Cambodia.
The Khmer Empire began approximately 800 CE when King Jayavarman II subjugated the small warring kingdoms around Tonle Sap Lake and
expanded to cover most of Thailand and Laos. Because of established trade routes, art and culture were strongly influenced by India. Hinduism was the
major religion in addition to Buddhism, animist, and traditional religions. (Plubins 2013) The Khmer capital of Angkor was a vibrant

Traffic Of Women For Prostitution : Thailand
Traffic in Women for Prostitution: Thailand
Each year, somewhere between 700,000 and 4 million women, children, and men are trafficked into modern forms of slavery worldwide. Trafficking
is a growing phenomenon internationally, and the problem is fueled by poverty, conflict, inadequate female education and economic opportunity and
the low value placed on women and children in many parts of the world. It is considered to be a gross violation of women's rights and a contemporary
form of slavery by the international community.
Although trafficking occurs in countries all over the world, Southeast Asian countries are especially notorious for their involvement.Thailand, in
particular, has developed into both a sending and receiving ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Trafficking is largely a result of gender inequality. Although some men and boys have been trafficked for labor purposes, the majority of victims are
women and girls. Agents and recruiters see women and young girls not as human beings, but as objects to be bought and sold. Gender discrimination
fuels the trafficking industry, since women have few opportunities and are seen as "lesser" people. The number of women and children who are
affected by trafficking is difficult to assess, since it is an illegal activity. Thailand is the main receiving country in theMekong region for trafficked
persons, and the largest numbers come from Myanmar, followed by Yunnan (China) and Lao PDR. In 1999, an estimated 80,000 women and children
were trafficked into the commercial sex industry in Thailand, of whom 30 percent were under 18 years of age. In total, the International Organization
for Migration estimates that around 300,000 women and children are trapped in slavery–like conditions in the Mekong Delta region, which
encompasses Cambodia, Lao PDR, Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam and the two southern Chinese provinces of Yunnan and Guangxi. It is believed that
90 percent of trafficking in the Mekong region is related to forced prostitution, and that 50 percent of

Pros And Cons Of Military Dictatorship
Why is the military dictatorship not good? It is supposed to believe that Thais are well–accustomed with the military dictatorship because Thailand has
been launched a coup d'Г©tat by a military for 13 times since 1932. When it changed the government system from absolute monarchy to constitutional
monarchy on June 24th, 1932 by the promoters, called Khana Rasadon including civil servants and the military elite. They seized the power of King
Rama VII and declared the first constitution. After that, Thailand should become more democratic, but it would not. The military elite quite has a big
role in Thai politics. According to the history, the incidents on October 14th,1973 when it was under controlled by the Thanom dictatorship. Students...

Treaty In1863: Cambodia
Treaty in1863 [Cambodia–France]
Before 1863, Cambodia mainly served as a vassal territory for either the Thai or Vietnamese government. As stated earlier, King Norodom was
seeking to end this cycle and gain power for Cambodia by signing a protection treaty with France. France viewed Cambodia as a buffer zone between
southern Vietnam and British–aligned Siam. They hoped that by signing the treaty they would be protecting their own interests in southern Vietnam. In
turn, Cambodia relied on French protection to stop Vietnamese invasions on the eastern border. On 11 August 1863, King Norodom signed a 'treaty of
friendship, commerce and French protection' with the Breton sailor Admiral Pierre de La GrandiГЁre, whose gunboat was moored on the river ... Show

Accordingly, in 1877, French started the first reforming program of the Khmer society and the two vital factors that forced French to program this
social reform were economic–business and political reform. In about 14 years, French couldn't expand their business activities in Cambodia because
Cambodia people were living in feudal tradition not free market policy. Indeed, because French expected to expand their power in Indochina as it
already had the agreement system in both the regions and social structures, so French demanded to change society, traditions and transform Cambodia
from feudalism to capitalist country which will practice the free market system like France. However, the officials, feudal lords and the local seemed to
ignore this reforming program and it made French's authority to be furious. The French officials complain that situation in Cambodia is still the worst,
subsequently, in march 1884, they insisted on the thoroughing revision of 1863 treaty. Three months later, in June 1884, the French governor of
Cochin china, Charles Anthoine Francois Thomas, went to Phnom Penh, Norodom's capital, and demanded approval of a treaty with Paris that
promised far reaching changes such as attempted to overthrow the monarched establish full French over Cambodia by sending a small force to the
Royal Palace in Phnom Penh, abolition of slavery, the institution of private land ownership, integration of 58 provinces into 8 provinces and the
establishment of French residents in provincial cities. In brief, the essence of 1884 agreement continued the meaning of the program in 1877, but what
farther adding was to change the control from protectorate into colonization. Regarding this, Governor Charles Thomas's gunboat churned up the
Mekong from Saigon with small army of French marines and Vietnamese rifleman aboard, causing the king reluctantly signed the agreement. However,

The Epidemic Of Hiv / Aids
Although the first wave of HIV infections occurred in 1988 amongst injecting drug users, it was during 1989 – 1990 that prompted the "awakening of
HIV/AIDS." The National Advisory Committee on AIDS developed a surveillance of sentinel groups, which included sex workers, male patients with
sexually transmitted infections, and blood donors. This surveillance revealed the HIV virus being transmitted rapidly through sex. From 1989–1990, the
prevalence of direct sex workers infected with the virus tripled from 3.5% to 9.3%. One year later, this prevalence increased to 21.6%. During the
same period, the proportion of male conscripts, aged 21, infected with HIV during testing for entry to the army rose six fold from 0.5% in 1989 to 3%
in 1991. This increase was associated with the growing popularity of visiting sex establishments among young men.
2.Describe the aim of the "no condom, no sex: 100% condom program."
In 1989, the Ratchaburi province created the innovative 100% Condom Program that aimed to reduce the vulnerability of individual sex workers to
sexually transmitted infections by constructing a "monopoly environment" across the province's sex establishments with one straightforward rule: no
condom, no sex.
3.Summarize how the "no condom, no sex" rule was implemented in Ratchaburi province. Why was it necessary for all sex establishments to
implement the same 100% condom policy?

A Unified Thai Kingdom
During the 14th century, a unified Thai kingdom was established. Today it is known as Thailand but up until 1939 it was called Siam. It is the only
Southeast Asian country that has never been under European rule. As archaeology studies suggests, 4000 B.C. was the time period where early bronze
metallurgy centers were thriving. Metallurgy refers to the science and technology concerned with the properties of metals and their production. This
development along with the cultivation of wet rice gave the motivation for social and political organizations to make an appearance. Also, research
suggests that these new discoveries could have been transmitted to the rest of Asia, including China. The Thai are linguistically related to the Tai
groups in Southern China because migration groups left from China and settled in Southeast Asia. Thai's date the founding of their nation to the 13th
century. According to tradition, in 1238 the Thai chieftains overthrew the Khmer rulers and established a Thai kingdom in its place. This kingdom
soon declined and a new Thai Kingdom emerged in 1350, the Kingdom of Ayutthaya. The first ruler of this kingdom, King Rama Thibodi, made two
very important contributions to Thai history. One was the establishment and promotion of Buddhism as the official religion and the second one was the
compilation of the Dharmashastra, which are laws based on Hindu and traditional Thai customs. The Dharmashastra stayed as a tool of Thai law until

I have decided to focus on Thailand for this discussion because it is remarkable how such a poverty, HIV prominent country for decades, has finally in

estimated 143,000 new infections in 1991 (Brown T, Sittitrai W, 1993). Fast–forwarding to 2013, Thailand decided to provide all pregnant women –

Only 30% of married men reported consistent condom use, while urban unmarried men were twice as likely to use condoms as those in rural areas.
Increased, consistent use of condoms was associated with men with secondary or higher education compared with men who without. Thai women
living with HIV/AIDS have suffered from negative perceptions and attitudes in Thai society because physical and moral appearances are important.
The stigma may have been caused by the mass media and public health promotion campaigns using scare tactics to alter behavior in the 1980s
(Liamputtong P, Haritavorn N, Kiatying–Angsulee N. 2009). They feared intentional or unintentional disclosure of their health status by health care
workers. Women have often not disclosed their status to sexual partners, family and friends, and some have even migrated away from their local

ETIOLOGY
As stated above, there an array of problems that contributed to the vast spread of HIV. One of the primary one's was the low use of condoms which

sex workers. After a successful innovative pilot project by Dr.Rojanapithayakorn, the regional director of the Thai CDC in Ratchaburi Province, he

Economic Benefits Of Foreign Direct Investment
International trade not only results in increased efficiency but also allows countries to participate in a global economy, encouraging the opportunity of
foreign direct investment (FDI), which is the amount of money that individuals invest into foreign companies and other assets. In theory, economies
can, therefore, grow more efficiently and can more easily become competitive economic participants. For the receiving government, FDI is a means by
which foreign currency and expertise can enter the country. These raise employment levels, and, theoretically, lead to a growth in the gross domestic
product. For the investor, FDI offers company expansion and growth, which means higher revenues. People's Republic of China (PRC), bases on United

services at a lower opportunity cost than other economic actors. It is about the work gains from trade individuals, firms, or nations that arise from
differences in their factor endowments or technological progress. In an economic model, one country has a comparative advantage over others in
producing a particular good if they can produce that good at a lower relative opportunity cost for example at a lower relative marginal cost prior to
trade. One does not compare the monetary costs of production or even the resource costs (labor needed per unit of output) of production. Instead,
one must compare the opportunity costs of producing goods across countries. The closely related law or principle of comparative advantage holds
that under free trade, a country will produce more of and consume less of a good for which they have a comparative advantage. The law of
comparative advantage is popularly attributed to English political economist David Ricardo and his book "Principles of Political Economy and
Taxation" in 1817. It helps explain why countries

Differences Between Thailand And The United States
The Difference Between Thailand and The United States
I'm originally Thai. Most Thai people do not have much opportunity to stay abroad. Luckily, I have had a chance to live in numerous countries, such as
the Netherlands, Germany, Japan and the United States. However, I have resided in Thailand and theUnited States for the longest time. Thailand and
the United States are very different countries, but the most obvious contrasts are the climate, the culture, and the educational opportunities of each
country.
Firstly, the weather in Thailand is dull as it is always warm. Thailand seems to have three climate conditions– hot, rainy and cold. Also, the air in
Thailand is highly humid. This helps the trees to stay green all year long. Furthermore, Thai people even have a joke about it and list seasons as hot,

some of the children have to go to school at downtown, which is farther and more expensive. I also traveled 3 hours every day for six years to go to

elementary and high schools are everywhere and are enough for the children in the area. Also, the online classes for the upper–level education are the

Human Trificking In Thailand : Prostitution And Human...
Thailand: Prostitution and Human Trafficking
Just imagine getting taken from your home without your consent or knowledge. You don't know here you're going or why, but you know it can't be
good. There is a term for this, and it is human trafficking. Human trafficking is the act of stealing a person for some sort of gain, typically financial.
You treat this person as a trading tool to get what you want. Thailand is the top destination forhuman trafficking on the planet. To understand human
trafficking as a whole, this seems like the perfect place to analyze.
The act of prostitution was actually legal and taxed in the Thai government from the 1300's to the 1700's. After that until the late 1800's, there was a
large surge in labor work and prostitution in the country. In the early 1900's prostitution hit sky high numbers when slavery was abolished in the
country. This was the case because former slave wives found themselves homeless and struggling financially. With no education they were forced to
fall into prostitution to be able to feed themselves and keep a roof over their heads.
As the 60's came around, sex trafficking once again flourished as American soldiers used Thailand as a break spot in the Vietnam War. They would
pay for prostitution services and this led to a boom in revenue created by the practice. Many movies that portray the Vietnam War show this practice,
one of these movies being Full Metal Jacket. Throughout the movie, there are multiple instances of men

been crawling to the top, world leaders racing to govern countries with better economics, politics, and power. In the process human rights become
ignored, forgotten, and abused. Some conditions have improved, while others have worsened. The human right conditions in Thailand, although ranked

In the past Thailand experienced many different regime changes. In the 1980's the country experienced strong economic growth. On October 25, 2004
security forces opened fire on protestors outside a Tak Bai police station in southern Thailand. Seven where shot and killed, seventy–eight were
suffocated or crushed to death; and over a thousand injured were held in police custody for days without medical care. Officials claim, they were only
doing their jobs (Government). The three southern most provinces were pronounced under emergency decreed in 2005. Authorities use
lГЁse–majestГ© laws to justify human rights violations. In 2006 Thaksin was removed from office by a military coup. In March–May of 2010 there
were ninety reported deaths and over two–thousand injured (World). The southern provinces experienced security force brutality and abuse, free
speech restrictions, and violation of refugee and migrant rights. In 2011 the current prime minister Yingluck, was elected into office. Since Yingluck
was elected into office, in 2011, she has yet to approach the subject of human rights violations, not providing accountability. She is receiving much
criticism for her relation to former prime minister Thaksin, her brother. The conditions of human rights have not improved much. On August 1, 2013

Prevention Of Radiation Threat Of Central Asia
Committee: 2nd ECOFIN
Topic: Prevention of Radiation Threat in Central Asia
Country: Thailand
Background
Radiation by definition is, "The complete process in which energy is emitted by one
body, transmitted through an intervening medium or space, and absorbed by another
body." Radiation has been a large–scale threat around the world, but especially in Central
Asia. The region of Central Asia includes Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan,
Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. All radioactive mines are threats, but the mines, tailings,
and trails involving uranium remain the biggest threat. These mines continue to be threats
because uranium is poisonous, causing toxicity and possibly death. Radioactive materials
in general are highly used for nuclear energy, for both good and bad ways. Good uses of
nuclear include fire, airplanes, and medical machines. Poor uses of nuclear energy
include the usage of bombs, which threaten human life.
United Nations Involvement
Within the United Nations, one organization is dedicated to atomic and nuclear energy.
This organization is IAEA, which is the International Atomic Energy Association. IAEA
was founded on 29 July 1957, and currently they have 165 member states with the
headquarters in Vienna, Australia. The IAEA was founded upon the threats of nuclear
energy and radiation. Pertaining to the issue, IAEA has a program called, "Atoms for
Peace" which encourages safe nuclear use, as well as ways to prevent radiation.

Cultural Culture Of Thailand
Introduction
Over 513,120 kmВІ, Thailand, also known as the land of smiles is the 50th largest country on Earth. Thailand is a country with several engrossing
family practices within its culture. Some of the things that provide interest to the Thai culture and practices are the Family Forms, Functions, Lifestyle,
Roles, Child–Rearing Practices, and general Family Relationships. This report will discuss various reasons as to why these factors make the culture and
families of Thailand unique and interesting.
Basic Facts About Thailand Thailand the land of freedom, has been a nation for almost 800 years. Before Thailand became a constitutional monarchy
it was named Siam. Moreover, Thailand is proud of the fact that they have never been colonized by Europeans. Thais also used to believe in a spirit in
the sky named Folklore before Buddhism came to the country. Furthermore, Thailand has a unique tonal language meaning that one syllable could have
several different meanings based on the intonation. Finally, when Thai people visit temples, they do not step on the doorsill since it is believed that
there is a spirit guardian that resides there.
Family Forms Thailand has many different family forms that have gone through several changes over time. In the past, Thailand consisted of mainly
extended families since that was the tradition. Nevertheless, through modernization the amount of extended families started decreasing and more
nuclear families started forming. Current day

Thailand's Political Peasants Book Review
Thailand's Political Peasants book by Andrew Walker is a must–read for people who would like to dive into learning more about the political status in
modern rural Thailand. In his book, Walker argues that in order to understand the governance of Thailand's middle–income peasantry –including its
fruitful electoral corroboration for Thaksin's populist policies, the political passions that brought the red shirts to Bangkok, and the electoral thrive of
Yingluck Shinawatra –––it is irresistible to address how savvy is exposed in a framework of rising income standards and a transformed relationship by

As Walker puts it, the forces of socioeconomic modernization that grow disparity further increase the capability and fluency of suburban political
opinion. For Walker, such a quandary of uneven development is the root problem of the contemporary political tension in Thailand. They anticipate that
the state will invigorate its efforts to raise the value of suburban livelihoods, cut back inequality, and extend secure savings when experimental
engagements with private budget fail. Urban–rural linkages not only supported the happening of modification, promoted slick forms of disbursement,
and blurred spatial distinctions, but also enabled suburban dwellers to compare their disadvantages with wealthy social populations. Income
inconsistency has caused dissatisfaction among peasants, who have endorsed a stable share of the benefits of economic development. The 2006
elite–backed coup executed the relationship between Thaksin and rural political society. However, Bangkok elites and intellectuals condemned the
impropriety of Thaksin and the electorate that had voted him into power. The adequate household in Bangkok is approximately three times higher than
in the suburban northeast and the north. Walker has pointed out that discrimination in Thailand is not the output of exuberance extraction by prevailing
elites. As

Unless the Thai government directs pressures upon the Thai Fishing industry and their secretive methodology of capturing and refraining victims,
Thailand will see no results in the fight against human trafficking in the labor industry. Although the Thai government has been showing progress and
promises, the unregulated fishing industry allows for victims be more vulnerable to trafficking so it is crucial for the government to implement strict
laws within the Thai fishing industry, Thai navy, and local police officials. The heavy reliance that boat owners have on brokers and the corrupt
officials that partner up with the labor industry for profit are pulling down the anchor for results to take fruit.
Learning from new investigations put into sale, Thailand has been repeatedly accused of slavery within their fishing industry with vast evidence of
abuse and exploitation migrant fisherman ("Thailand ignoring slaves"). Thailand is the world's largest prawn exporter in vast seafood and their

Thailand has experienced flooding since ancient times, with the annual monsoons as the crucial factor. This circumstance happened in case of flooding
in 2011; there were five tropical monsoons during 25th July 2011 – 16th January 2012 which originated from the northern region in August and
became severe in September which caused floods throughout the central region of Thailand of approximately 14,241 Square Kilometers in November
2011. The afflicted area of flooding covered 65 provinces and killed 657 persons at that time. The case of Thailand flooding in 2011 drew attention
among scholars and communities towards finding improvements in regional watershed management in the future. Basically, the perception towards
water management in Thailand was more concerned with the water scarcity issue in drought period rather than the issue of excessive water in the
monsoon period, and the perception in flood disaster relief was addressed as the social welfare relief activity. As a result, the flood disaster management
was concerned with a defensive approach rather than an offensive approach. The aspect of multi–boundary management was stated as one necessary
factor in large–scale disaster management; there was no organization that could deal with flood situation as a cross–jurisdiction organ in a professional
way, although each governmental organ and division had data and information related to the flood situation

Prevention Of Hiv / Aids
Prevention of HIV/Aids in Thailand
Abstract This paper looks at increases in the prevalence of HIV/AIDS in Thailand in the early 1990 's and the action taken to address this health issue.
As a solution, the National AIDS committee of Thailand took an initiative to form the "100 Percent Condom Program". This program not only made
condom use a requirement but also promoted health education in regard to HIV/AIDS. One of the major sources of the spread of HIV in Thailand was
the increase of the disease among sex workers. After the success of the "100 Percent Condom Program" in Thailand, it has been implemented in various
other Asian countries such as Philippines, Myanmar, Cambodia, Vietnam, China, Mongolia, and Laos.

Globally, HIV is a huge threat to health. A large number of HIV/AIDS infected people are from sub
–Saharan Africa. The life expectancy in this region
is about 47 years. Without the presence of HIV, the life expectancy could be extended to 62 years. An estimated number of 20 million children had
parents who died from HIV/AIDS. Mother to child HIV transmission is another global issue. Over 90 percent of 5.1 million children infected with
HIV have gotten infected from their mother. Among the millions of people who are affected by HIV/AIDS, groups such as intravenous drug users,
sex workers, and men who have sex with men are particularly affected by the disease. Young adults are also among the groups that are most infected
with HIV. In 2012, adolescents accounted for "39 percent of all new infections and 15 percent of all people living with HIV" (HIV & AIDS

Study Methodology The majority of sexual transmission of HIV occurred through the means of sex workers. Sex workers did not ask clients to use
condoms because, clients preferred unprotected sex. Sex workers were not educated about HIV transmission and the threat it could have on their
health so they did not use protection. As a way to fight the spread of HIV/Aids, the Ratchaburi Province in Thailand came up with the idea of "no

TSUNAMI – WHAT ARE THEY?
5. Tsunamis are not wind–generated waves. Rather, they are shallow–water waves, with long periods (time between two sucessional waves) and wave
lengths (distance between two sucessional waves). The wind–generated swell one sees at a California beach, for example, spawned by a storm out in
the Pacific and rhythmically rolling in might have a period of about 10 seconds and a wave length of 150 m. A tsunami, on the other hand, can have a
wavelength in excess of 100 kilometer and period on the order of one hour. As a result of their long wave lengths, tsunamis behave as shallow–water
waves . A wave becomes a shallow–water wave when the ratio between the water depth and its wave length gets very small. Shallow–water waves
move at a speed that is equal to the square root of the product of the acceleration of gravity and the water depth. In the Pacific Ocean, where the typical
water depth is about 4,000 meter, a tsunami travels at about 200

  • 2. The Military Force of Thailand As far as we are concerned, unlike other Asian countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia and others, Thailand military forces portrayed a significant concern pertaining to internal turbulence within Thailand. (Simon, 2000, p. 13) This is because, for several decades, since communist aggression and until todays, internal security has become the main core focus of Thailand military forces in the aspects of defence and security of Thailand (Taylor, 2013, p. 12); compared to other aspects such as external defence. Before discussing or deliberating the roles of Thailand military forces in internal security, it is better for us to understand the definition of internal security because it might raise confusion as it both aspects are associated closely with the national interest of a country. As coined by the Democratic Republic of Timor–Leste National Parliament (2003), internal security is defined as an activity or program advanced by the State (Government) with the aims to guarantee order, security and public peacefulness, to safeguards people and goods, to prevent law–breaking and contribute to guarantee the normal functioning of the democratic institutions. Through this clear definition, it is clear that external security and internal security are different with each other. In Thailand, the military undertook a crucial role of internal security pertaining to the Burmese refugees and insurgency in the southernmost of Thailand insurgency by the Malay–Muslim insurgent. • 3. The Canadian Banking System As compared to the US banking system, Canada has fewer banks; therefore, its financial system is more concentrated. Although highly concentrated, Canadian banks are generally more diversified, with expansion in wealth management, insurance, deposit and loans, and brokerage services. Further, the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFT) was responsible to the Minister of Finance for the supervision of banks and federally regulated non–bank financial institution. With this in mind, the Canadian banking system was one of the most stable in the world with only two bank failure since 1923. From 1987 to 1992, several revisions were made to the Canada's Bank Act, which required a bank to maintain adequate capital as well as adequate and appropriate forms of liquidity. The revisions helped decrease the barriers between the four pillars of Canada's financial services industry: commercial banking, investment banking, trust, and insurance. More importantly, this changes led to the expansion of new services of major Canadian banks such as insurance, money management, retail brokerage, trust, and by 1980, Canada allowed foreign banks to enter its market. The Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) is the largest bank in Canada with over 16 million clients and 78,000 employees worldwide. The company headquarters is located in Ontario, Canada, and it was founded in 1864. In 1997, the RBC ranked the sixth largest bank of North America with assets of $245 billion. The RBC, ... • 5. Cambodia, Congo, And Jamaica Case Study: Cambodia, Congo, and Jamaica Cambodia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Jamaica are countries that gained independence from European powers after World War II. Though located in different regions of the world, and colonized by different European powers, these countries experienced social unrest and economic challenges that remain. Key to understanding these countries is understanding their histories and struggles, which continue to have significant impact on conditions within these countries today. Cambodia Cambodia's history contrasts a glorious past with recent tragedy. Located in Southeast Asia between Thailand and Vietnam, Cambodia's history of conflict with its neighbors and European colonialism has led to distrust and nationalism. Fear of foreign occupation or being partitioned by its neighbors lingers in the Cambodian national psychology. Once part of French Indochina, Cambodian gained independence in 1953 when King Sihanouk convinced France that only complete independence would undercut the appeal of communism in Cambodia. The Khmer Empire began approximately 800 CE when King Jayavarman II subjugated the small warring kingdoms around Tonle Sap Lake and expanded to cover most of Thailand and Laos. Because of established trade routes, art and culture were strongly influenced by India. Hinduism was the major religion in addition to Buddhism, animist, and traditional religions. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Trafficking is largely a result of gender inequality. Although some men and boys have been trafficked for labor purposes, the majority of victims are women and girls. Agents and recruiters see women and young girls not as human beings, but as objects to be bought and sold. Gender discrimination fuels the trafficking industry, since women have few opportunities and are seen as "lesser" people. The number of women and children who are affected by trafficking is difficult to assess, since it is an illegal activity. Thailand is the main receiving country in theMekong region for trafficked persons, and the largest numbers come from Myanmar, followed by Yunnan (China) and Lao PDR. In 1999, an estimated 80,000 women and children were trafficked into the commercial sex industry in Thailand, of whom 30 percent were under 18 years of age. In total, the International Organization for Migration estimates that around 300,000 women and children are trapped in slavery–like conditions in the Mekong Delta region, which encompasses Cambodia, Lao PDR, Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam and the two southern Chinese provinces of Yunnan and Guangxi. As stated earlier, King Norodom was seeking to end this cycle and gain power for Cambodia by signing a protection treaty with France. France viewed Cambodia as a buffer zone between southern Vietnam and British–aligned Siam. They hoped that by signing the treaty they would be protecting their own interests in southern Vietnam. In turn, Cambodia relied on French protection to stop Vietnamese invasions on the eastern border. Accordingly, in 1877, French started the first reforming program of the Khmer society and the two vital factors that forced French to program this social reform were economic–business and political reform. In about 14 years, French couldn't expand their business activities in Cambodia because Cambodia people were living in feudal tradition not free market policy. Indeed, because French expected to expand their power in Indochina as it already had the agreement system in both the regions and social structures, so French demanded to change society, traditions and transform Cambodia from feudalism to capitalist country which will practice the free market system like France. However, the officials, feudal lords and the local seemed to ignore this reforming program and it made French's authority to be furious. The French officials complain that situation in Cambodia is still the worst, subsequently, in march 1884, they insisted on the thoroughing revision of 1863 treaty. Three months later, in June 1884, the French governor of Cochin china, Charles Anthoine Francois Thomas, went to Phnom Penh, Norodom's capital, and demanded approval of a treaty with Paris that promised far reaching changes such as attempted to overthrow the monarched establish full French over Cambodia by sending a small force to the Royal Palace in Phnom Penh, abolition of slavery, the institution of private land ownership, integration of 58 provinces into 8 provinces and the establishment of French residents in provincial cities. • 13. A Unified Thai Kingdom During the 14th century, a unified Thai kingdom was established. Today it is known as Thailand but up until 1939 it was called Siam. It is the only Southeast Asian country that has never been under European rule. As archaeology studies suggests, 4000 B.C. was the time period where early bronze metallurgy centers were thriving. Metallurgy refers to the science and technology concerned with the properties of metals and their production. This development along with the cultivation of wet rice gave the motivation for social and political organizations to make an appearance. Also, research suggests that these new discoveries could have been transmitted to the rest of Asia, including China. The Thai are linguistically related to the Tai groups in Southern China because migration groups left from China and settled in Southeast Asia. Thai's date the founding of their nation to the 13th century. According to tradition, in 1238 the Thai chieftains overthrew the Khmer rulers and established a Thai kingdom in its place. This kingdom soon declined and a new Thai Kingdom emerged in 1350, the Kingdom of Ayutthaya. The first ruler of this kingdom, King Rama Thibodi, made two very important contributions to Thai history. One was the establishment and promotion of Buddhism as the official religion and the second one was the compilation of the Dharmashastra, which are laws based on Hindu and traditional Thai customs. Thai women living with HIV/AIDS have suffered from negative perceptions and attitudes in Thai society because physical and moral appearances are important. The stigma may have been caused by the mass media and public health promotion campaigns using scare tactics to alter behavior in the 1980s (Liamputtong P, Haritavorn N, Kiatying–Angsulee N. 2009). Economic Benefits Of Foreign Direct Investment International trade not only results in increased efficiency but also allows countries to participate in a global economy, encouraging the opportunity of foreign direct investment (FDI), which is the amount of money that individuals invest into foreign companies and other assets. For the receiving government, FDI is a means by which foreign currency and expertise can enter the country. Comparative advantage is an economic theory referring to the ability of any given economic actor to produce goods and services at a lower opportunity cost than other economic actors. It is about the work gains from trade individuals, firms, or nations that arise from differences in their factor endowments or technological progress. In an economic model, one country has a comparative advantage over others in producing a particular good if they can produce that good at a lower relative opportunity cost for example at a lower relative marginal cost prior to trade. One does not compare the monetary costs of production or even the resource costs (labor needed per unit of output) of production. Instead, one must compare the opportunity costs of producing goods across countries. The closely related law or principle of comparative advantage holds that under free trade, a country will produce more of and consume less of a good for which they have a comparative advantage. The law of comparative advantage is popularly attributed to English political economist David Ricardo and his book "Principles of Political Economy and Taxation" in 1817. You don't know here you're going or why, but you know it can't be good. There is a term for this, and it is human trafficking. Human trafficking is the act of stealing a person for some sort of gain, typically financial. You treat this person as a trading tool to get what you want. Thailand is the top destination forhuman trafficking on the planet. To understand human trafficking as a whole, this seems like the perfect place to analyze. The act of prostitution was actually legal and taxed in the Thai government from the 1300's to the 1700's. After that until the late 1800's, there was a large surge in labor work and prostitution in the country. In the early 1900's prostitution hit sky high numbers when slavery was abolished in the country. This was the case because former slave wives found themselves homeless and struggling financially. With no education they were forced to fall into prostitution to be able to feed themselves and keep a roof over their heads. As the 60's came around, sex trafficking once again flourished as American soldiers used Thailand as a break spot in the Vietnam War. They would pay for prostitution services and this led to a boom in revenue created by the practice. Many movies that portray the Vietnam War show this practice, one of these movies being Full Metal Jacket. Throughout the movie, there are multiple instances of men ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This circumstance happened in case of flooding in 2011; there were five tropical monsoons during 25th July 2011 – 16th January 2012 which originated from the northern region in August and became severe in September which caused floods throughout the central region of Thailand of approximately 14,241 Square Kilometers in November 2011. We know that this power is greater than that of our species– nature holds us in its hands. TSUNAMI – WHAT ARE THEY? 5. Tsunamis are not wind–generated waves. Rather, they are shallow–water waves, with long periods (time between two sucessional waves) and wave lengths (distance between two sucessional waves). The wind–generated swell one sees at a California beach, for example, spawned by a storm out in the Pacific and rhythmically rolling in might have a period of about 10 seconds and a wave length of 150 m. A tsunami, on the other hand, can have a wavelength in excess of 100 kilometer and period on the order of one hour. As a result of their long wave lengths, tsunamis behave as shallow–water waves . A wave becomes a shallow–water wave when the ratio between the water depth and its wave length gets very small. Shallow–water waves
