- 3. 1. Do I really need another person in the office? Do we need to do this job at all? Can this job be automated? Can it be outsourced? ... if the honest answer to these questions is NO --> let’s look at hiring a person internally
- 4. 2. Do we really need internal IT staff? Are there free apps available to do this task? Are there paid apps available to do this task? Is there a subscription based Cloud option? Can it be outsourced? Is it a project that I can get an external specialist to do for me?
- 5. If I can’t find a different (or cheaper) solution, then maybe... we need to hire another person:
- 6. Somebody that fits our Culture
- 7. 3. What type of person do we need? Do you fit our company’s purpose and vision? Do you share the same core values? Do you have what it takes? Will you complement the team and lift the overall performance? Will you make me (the hiring person) look good?
- 8. 4. Mandatory Skills (the job ad) Non-negotiable without these skills you won’t be able to do the job without these skills you’ll endanger the future of the business These skills are “your ticket to the game”

- 10. 5. Who are you? You can change what you know BUT: You’re most productive when you do what you are...
- 11. 6. What is unique about you? Everybody else has MCSE and a computing degree... why would I hire you? Everybody else has ITIL Foundation... why would I hire you? Everybody else has... (fill in a basic skill or qualification)
- 12. WHY WOULD I HIRE YOU? what work experience do you have? What LIFE experience do you have?
- 13. What do you do to keep your qualifications current? What do you read outside of work? What other courses did you complete? How often do you attend conferences / seminars? 7. how do you improve yourself?
- 14. How to win... So ... what’s in this for you?
- 15. Your resume is your sales tool don’t be afraid to broadcast your special skills and experiences
- 16. Put yourself in the shoe of the employer.. why would they need you?
- 17. Show your true colors How will the business benefit from employing you? What skills, experiences and values do you have that make you unique? Apart from the money - what do you want from your job / career? BE HONEST WITH YOURSELF AND OTHERS
