The first generation of Mercedes Sprinter in North America was launched in 2001 in the U.S.,

badged as “Mercedes-Benz “until 2003 after that they received Dodge branding. Units in the
United States and Canada (not in Mexico) are sold with name of Dodge or Freight liner from
2003.
In North America, most Sprinters are sold as cargo vans to expediters in the United States. Such
expediters are similar to truck drivers, except they take smaller loads and will wait after
unloading until dispatchers find another customer nearby to transport goods. A Sprinter is
capable of hauling approximately 3000 lb (1360 kg) of cargo. So, they were used for transporting
goods. The Sprinter is also being used as ambulances in the US.
2. Transmission shifting concerns: Automatic may develop shifting concerns or a shudder
condition. Technicians state the shudder condition may be caused by transmission fluid level or
quality. The shifting concerns may be caused by a faulty transmission control module (TCM).
Transmission control module: There are complaints from customers that, while starting the car
the transmission was turned off and the van don’t move under its own power. The only way to
start is is to push even it in reverse or drive as it was in neutral.
Transmission slipping: In some cases the customers reported that the transmission is slipping
from 2 to 3 when the van is hot, where as it is fine when the vehicle is cold.
Transmission Fluid: The transmission fluid is the oil, is an insulator & It shoul be drained &
refilled quite a few transformers & oil filled electric motors to avoid the repairs in TCM which
will cause the failures
