2. The society does not yet lack Good Samaritans and Durgapur, a city in West
Bengal has a number of them. Nikhil, an engineering student in Durgapur
plans to help educate a number of underprivileged children. In his endeavour
he is helped by some of his friends and juniors. But apart from human
resources Nikhil already has, he must receive sponsorships to meet the
expenses for the growing number of children who depend on him for their
education.
But to get sponsorships he must register his body as an NGO.
The following covers Nikhil’s plans on how to register his body, Chetna as an
NGO and his plans with Chetna ahead.
3. The organisation, Chetna must register itself under the WEST BENGAL
SOCIETIES REGISTRATION ACT, 1961 ( W.B. Act XXVI of 1961 & W.B.
Societies Registration Rules 1963) .
Chetna must establish its own registered office.
Any seven (7) or more individuals associated for the objects of Chetna
shall subscribe their names to a Memorandum of Association(MOA)
File MOA along with a Copy of the regulations with the Registrar of
Societies for the State of West Bengal for registration of the association as
an NGO under the above Act.
The MOA must be accompanied by the Registration Fee.

4. Basic Requirements needed to be Fulfilled
Submission of at least two documents a.) Memorandum of Association
(MOA) b.) and Rules and Regulations (RR)
Chetna must maintain its registered office.
Minimum seven people are required to form this society.
There must be a Governing council which will direct and control the
functioning of the society.
Other Requirements needed to be Fulfilled
The NGO, Chetna shall maintain at its registered office, a register of its
members.
Chetna shall keep at its registered office proper books of account in which
shall be entered accurately the
a) source of money and an account of expenses thereof
b) the assets and liabilities of Chetna.
5. Chetna will have its registered office at Durgapur. The area has been identified
as 1 among the 24 problem areas in the country by Central Pollution Control
Board
Problems identified:
Water pollution, caused by dumping of industrial waste into waterways
Air pollution caused by industrial emissions
Soil pollution caused by settlement of heavier air pollutants on the soil
Degradation of health of local people
Vulnerability of local industrial workers due to rising pollution levels in
factories

6. Environmental awareness among public through Seminars
Padayatra by children of Chetna and their parents on selected weekends
Drama/street theatre organised by members of Chetna
Drawing and Animation Competition among children on Environmental
awareness
Advertisement/poster/banner campaign
Planting trees by members and children of Chetna on selected weekends
Resource material (publication, educational kits, posters, audio-visuals, etc)
educating society on Soil contamination, protection and conservation of water
7. The initial and running costs incurred by the NGO may be categorised as follows:

a) Cost of lease of building for its registered office and teaching children
b)Registration fee
c) Initial Travel expenses to sponsors, govt. offices and online communication
d)Furniture, marker boards, one computer and projector
2. Running costs
a) Monthly salary for 2 additional teachers who agree to work at low fees
b) Books, copies, pens , pencils, etc.
c) Toys, games, stationaries for children
d) Electricity costs
e) Occasional Food items to students
f) Other maintenance costs
