4. The history of the Lepsa monastery starts in 1774, when an
apprentice of Paisie de la Neamt decided to found a holy settlement next
to the river Putna. In 1929 the church caught fire, but was rebuilt several
years later. The monastery survived the communistic regime, even when it
was closed down in 1960.
