2. The locality has a
record that can never
be equaled, being one
of the communes in
Romania with the
largest number of
villages (39). The name
of the commune
comes from the name
of the entire
depression "Country of
Vidra". This is the place
where the famous
underwater carnivores
have lived and still live.
3. Mentioned in a document from 1595, known as Vidra de Jos, the
commune is one of the oldest settlements of the "Land of Moti". It
has been inhabited since the Geto-Dacians and Roman rule due to
the golden exploitation of the Apuseni Mountains. Until 1924, the
commune also included the village of Vidra de Sus, but with the
celebration of the centenary of the birth of Avram Iancu, it detached
from the commune, forming the new commune Avram Iancu.
4. One of the interesting curiosities
of the area is found in Nemes
village. Here, in the past, from
the limestone tufa formations
the villagers have made fences
and crosses that can be seen in
cemeteries or on the roadside.
In Nemes village, such fencing
has been preserved, as if from a
picturesque Irish landscape.
There was no home or
"brimstone" where there would
be no ash, beech or cherry that
would protect it from the
weather and never a fir tree.
5. The Flower of the Corner, on Mount
Struțu
• Also in Vidra, in the Poieni village area, which has
remained without any inhabitants, there can be
found the "picio pit", a real natural cellar dug in the
ground to keep the potatoes in the winter. On the
territory of the commune there is also the only
place in Apuseni where the famous Flower of the
Corner grows.
6. • This is the tip of "Strutu", a massive mountain over
1000 meters altitude. Another side of tourism would be
the existence of old wooden houses over 150 years old,
which are still inhabited. Living in a mountain area,
where a large number of inhabitants deal with wood
processing, the existence of popular craftsmen is a
reality, preserved and transmitted from father to son.
7. • Whoever goes through Vidra and looks closer on a
cliff at the foot of the Strutus Mountain can
distinguish a carved stone-like image that
resembles the image of King Decebal. The time
passed in thousands of years, and yet, the king, he
did not die. His face, beaten by rains and winds,
stays above the commonest Apuseni people.
8. • Another less known attraction of the area is
represented by the gorges of the Morii Valley, on
the Arieşul Mic Valley. They have a width of 20-50
meters and a height of 100-150 meters, and the
protected area also includes two bursts, the Cala
Cave and the Hoanca Stur and Poieni Avenues.
